Brief History of the Hospital

The hospital initially known as Bangladesh Medical College Hospital – Uttara campus, started with outdoor services in the year 2003.

Indoor services started from 2005.

The hospital is an organization of Bangladesh Medical Studies and Research Institute (BMSRI).

Name of the hospital was changed to Uttara Adhunik Medical College Hospital on 31st December 2007.

Brief History of the Hospital..

The main building of the hospital is 16 storied including 4 levels for the college section.

There are 3 separate buildings for Radiology, Orthopedics ,ENT , Dental & Emergency department.

The total land area of the hospital complex is 5 bighas.

Presently, Uttara Adhunik Medical College Hospital is a 500 bedded multi disciplinary hospital in Uttara, Dhaka providing health care services to patients from all over the country including a large number of people from Uttara, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar.

The hospital has 24 hours emergency services, modern investigation facilities, ICU, CCU, NICU and Haemodialysis Unit.

Uttara Adhunik Medical College got permission for enrollment of 50 students for MBBS course in the academic year of 2007-2008.

In 2009 the college got permission to enroll additional 25 students.

Recently 4th batch has started their classes.

Brief History of the College

The library is situated at the 12th floor on a 4500 sft. area.

The library is very rich with 1038 books and 63 journals.

Annual budget2008 -5,87,000.00/-2009 - 8,65,000.00/-2010- 17,89,565.00/-

A space in the level 12 beside library is allocated to MEU. There a few desktops with 24×7 internet connection

with printing facilities.

Academic activities

Clinical Ward Classes:3rd year students started their clinical classes from

September, 2009.Students attend classes including clinical wards

everyday, 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours at evening

The students also attend operations in theatre , where they are taught about theatre etiquette, sterilization, instruments & basic surgical

techniques.

Daily Clinical Meeting

Daily clinical meeting with the name of Morning Session is held everyday (except Tuesday) where interesting and academic cases along with mortality and morbidity are discussed

Academic activities

Weekly Central Clinical Meeting :Central clinical meeting is held every Tuesday where different specialties present cases of academic interest on a rotation basis.

Journal Club:Recent and important topics from different well known web-sites on Index Journals are discussed in regular journal meetings on first Thursday of very month .

Post graduate training : 

The post graduate training in the Department of surgery has been recognized by BCPS for a period of six months. Here the trainees get ample opportunity to perform surgeries and thus have good hands-on training under direct supervision of the consultants

Operation theatre :

The hospital has a large , spacious OT complex located at 11th floor. It comprises of 6 operating rooms (general surgery-2, laparoscopic surgery-1,orthopedics-1, neurosurgery-1,urology-1) , a well equipped post-operative ward, changing rooms, nursing station and a record room.

Good number of major and minor surgeries are carried out daily, so the doctors of this department get good opportunity to develop surgical skills.

Its on the 11th floor within the OT complex with 15 beds.

Round the clock trained postoperative nursesPatients are supervised by the doctors of department of Anesthesiology..

A modern, well equipped ICU is present at 10th floor. There are 10 beds with 9 ventilators.
