Solar Cell

• A solar cell is an electrical device that converts the energy of light directly into electricity.

• It product electricity

from sun light.

History of Solar Cell• The photovoltaic effect was first

experimentally demonstrated by French physicist Edmond Becquerel, In 1839.

• Albert Einstein explained the

underlying mechanism of light

instigated carrier excitation—

the photoelectric effect—in 1905.

• The first practical photovoltaic

cell was publicly demonstrated on

April 25, 1954 at Bell Laboratories.

modern solar cell.

Activation

• Photons bombard and penetrate the cell.• They activate electrons, knocking them loose in

both silicon layers.• Some electrons in the bottom layer sling-shot to

the top of the cell.• These electrons flow into metal contacts as

electricity, moving into a circuit throughout a 60-cell module.

• Electrons flow back into the cell via a solid contact layer at the bottom, creating a closed loop or circuit.
