HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION
STAGES
Me and my partner decided that we were going to use her MacBook Pro and Final Cut Pro to edit our music video.
Nobody else in our year used the Mac operating system to edit their videos so we decided that we wanted to be
different and hoped that it would benefit us.

TECHNOLOGY USED IN PLANNING
When we first began the course in July I decided that I was going to use the calendar which is available to me through my Hotmail email
account. I used the calendar because I knew that it would help me to become organised. I would be able to refer to this when I made plans but also be reminded when the event was going to take place. As you are able to place times on the calendar this meant that nothing would
overlap.
TECHNOLOGY USED FOR RESEARCH
When we were doing our audience research we decided to use some social networking websites as we have a large
audience to work with. As we have the majority of our
college on Facebook or twitter this meant that we would get a
large variety of answers. We were also able to share our
video onto Facebook when we wanted to get some feedback.
YouTube was very helpful when we were doing our research because it was
available for the music video analysis, interesting videos,
shot by shot analysis, conventions of music videos
and research into music video directors. We were able to embed videos into our blog
from YouTube. As YouTube has comments underneath the videos, this meant that we
were able to take some of the peoples views about different
music videos from this.
PORTABLE TECHNOLOGY
My BlackBerry is a portable form of technology which I am able to have on me at all times of the day. When I was not at home or college, I was able to
call my partner so that we could organise to meet. I was also able to contact my actors when I needed them for the filming. I am able to view my emails on my phone which
became useful when contacting the actors. As I have my phone on me at all
times it means I can stay up to date with what is happening with the construction when I
am not around
VIDEO CAMERAS
When we did our first draft, we were able to borrow Lizzie’s brothers Canon 550D HD video camera as he was going to be there to supervise the shooting of the
band. We then filmed a girl from college called Daisy using the Panasonic SDR-S70. The difference in the quality was
highly visible and we decided that it was not good enough. During our course, the
college decided to purchase a Canon 550D which we would be able to use. When refilming we used the college’s
Canon 550D as it would match the quality we already had with the band footage. It completely showed and the footage we
now have is well lit, sharp and not distorted at all.
We used the Final Cut Pro to edit our music video. We managed to learn quite quickly how to use the program as it was quite similar to the Adobe Premiere Pro which we had become familiar with when editing our preliminary task and Thriller
task last year. We did have a few problems when using the program which is an example of how technology stifled our production. Final Cut Pro allowed us to edit our footage and we were able to speed up footage and reverse some shots when we
thought it was necessary. We found Google was very helpful to us when learning how to use Final Cut Pro. Any problems we found Google normally told us the answer. We
learnt quickly how to use the razor blade tool, zoom and rendering was also important when using Final Cut Pro. We also found that colour could be edited so that we could make it suit our theme of recklessness and boisterous behaviour.
FINAL CUT PRO
BLOGGER
Blogger was used mainly within our research section of the project. It was good in the way that you could upload everything to one place easily. As it was on the internet, I did not have the problem of losing any work. If the work was to be lost on the computer then there was always going to be a back up on the internet. I did not like that the place where you enter text to is
just one small box. I think that the area should be much bigger. I tired not to use Blogger too much as I ended up getting quite frustrated with it a lot of the time when trying to place images into my posts and also text moving around to where I did not
want it to be visually on the page.
PREZI
Prezi was helpful to me when I was doing my research. I have also used it for one of my evaluation questions. When
I was doing the history of the music video, it was a good interactive option because I was able to create a moving presentation which allowed the user to go off the chosen
path which I have created. There were many different ways of presenting the Prezi including using lots of
different designs and colour schemes.
When using technology there is always going to be some limitations with what you can do including the following; Your ideas being too large to what is actually available
from the software If you are able to use the software to a good ability
