Page 2: Media Evaluation Q3

Process of Feedback

To gather my audience feedback, I distributed a

number of questionnaires to various audience members, as well as interviewing some

personally.

The Questions

Page 4: Media Evaluation Q3

Do you think the music video works well with the chosen track?

From this question, I aimed to find out whether I had made a suitable choice of theme to display in the video; song choice and theme complimenting each other.

Page 5: Media Evaluation Q3

What would you do to improve the music video?

With this, I set out to discover if there were any aspects of the music video that our target audience would have changed and why.

Page 6: Media Evaluation Q3

Do you feel you could follow the narrative?

Was the character well portrayed?

I aimed to discover whether our music videos narrative was coherent to my target audience, in conjunction with comments on whether the characters portrayal reinforced the structure of the narrative.

Page 7: Media Evaluation Q3

Do you think the visual effects in the video add to the theme?

In the editing process, I decided to experiment with the use of visual effects, believing proper use would enhance the experience of the video. This question deals with the success of the effects.

The Answers

Page 11: Media Evaluation Q3

Do you think the music video works well with the chosen

track?

“The lighting, sound, specific shots portrays a sense of connection between the music video and track”

“The colours, idea of empty space and use of actor works well as it is what you would expect of this song. It gives a depressing and emotional effect which connects to the theme”

Page 12: Media Evaluation Q3

What would you do to improve the music video?

“Include a wider variety of shots to give a greater overview of the theme”

“I feel that there’s hardly much to improve but maybe some shots that are handheld could be a little less shaky”

“Yes, the way it was illustrated was extremely good, especially with the use of drugs as props”

“Yes and he was. The video made me feel slightly sympathetic for him and also quite scared”

Interview

Page 21: Media Evaluation Q3

What have I learned from this?

Page 22: Media Evaluation Q3

I have learnt that the music video does connect well with the choice of song. This appears to be mainly due to the atmosphere created in the video (dark, tense, gritty etc.) emulating the experience of the theme: insomnia.

Page 23: Media Evaluation Q3

Overall, I received various improvements I could make, such as use of props, more shots of the lead singer and improvements to some aspects of lighting. I recognise the issues above and, if time allowed it, would make the necessary changes to aspects in the editing process, for example, lighting and shot variation.

Page 24: Media Evaluation Q3

I found that the majority of viewers could follow the narrative easily. However, some viewers felt the narrative could have been clearer, yet understand this “confusion” was to stimulate the atmosphere of the video. On character portrayal, one viewer claimed she even felt sympathetic for the character, meaning I have accomplished this goal.

Page 25: Media Evaluation Q3

In regards to the use of visual effects, I only received positive remarks; the majority complimenting the use of superimposition in the video, claiming it added to the confusion and portraying insomnia. The use of superimposition and quick cuts were always going to be paramount for me in the creation of my music video, as i felt this was going to best display the distress of the character.

Page 26: Media Evaluation Q3

I believe that I have portrayed the theme of insomnia very accurately. With 100% positive responses for this question, the audience too believe this is a genuine portrayal of the mind of an insomniac and what they may experience.

Page 27: Media Evaluation Q3

Out of all the people we interviewed, we only received one negative response to whether they would watch the video again. However, this may be down to the viewers personal taste of music, maybe being a fan of a different genre. On the other hand, the fact we received only one negative response means that I have accomplished my goal in creating a music video for our target audience.
