Provo School District Server Map

District Servers- a closer lookEach green square represents an network hub at each school in the district

Our servers at Timpview High

Tech Expert Clip: How many servers do we need running?

What does the server room look like?

Each cord connects to a different internet “hub” around the

school. These blue cords are for the wireless

Tech Expert Clip: Explain the servers please…

Make sure to listen for: How many servers there are, as well as what would happen if the servers had a problem?

Servers can be an organizational nightmare…and they need to be kept at a particular temperature. If wired wrong they can be very expensive to fix.

This room is temperature controlled

Tech Expert Clip: How much does it cost to rewire a school network? Why so much?

Here is what a network hub looks like…

Here is a smaller connection (satellite) in a classroom…• Each of these satellites can cover about 40

students in the adjacent classrooms.

Each school has an IP address• An IP address is like a mailing address for you computer. Each can be

traced and linked• The first 5 digits are our school district (area boxed)• The rest of the number allow us to know what computers are being used

Added info…our network is also used for our monitoring security at the school
