Senior’s Residential Housing Project
Design Narrative
This residential housing project was designed with the notion of accommodating the population increase of senior citizens. This concept project would hypothetically be located on the Northwest corner of Warden Ave and St Clair Ave intersection. Suites are designed with a barrier free concept. Countertop heights are lowered and circulation spaces are made to allow easy access for residents in wheelchairs. Communal spaces are integrated into the design to promote sociability among the senior residents. Along with the barrier free designs, this residential housing project also incorporates various sustainable strategies which include the following: - Photovoltaic Panels - Adjustable Watt Meter (Per Suite) - Water Harvesting - Permeable Pavement - Geothermal Heating - Motion Sensor Lights (Per Suite) - Low VOC Paints, Coatings, and Carpets in the Interior - Low Emitting Double Glazed Windows.

This proposed project would be located on a
vacant lot on the southeast corner of the Finch Ave
and Altona Rd intersection. The intent for this
project was to become familiar with basic zoning
and to become familiar with design and
construction of non-residential structures. The strip
mall project will consist of retail units as well as
office spaces and a restaurant. The office spaces
will be located on the second level of Building 1 and
the restaurant will be located in Building 2. The
strip mall will replace the plain vacant lot with two
presentable buildings and provide a functional
space that contributes to the Pickering community.

This project was one in a number of
projects that was intended to develop
basic skills in using the AutoCAD program.
This project contributed to familiarizing
basic commands and functional space
placement. Not only do these AutoCAD
projects familiarize basic commands and
functional space placement, they
implement use of various building
materials and wide range of construction
methods. The Car Dealership project along
with other CAD projects have allowed me
to become proficient in drawings including
floor plans, elevations, sections, wall
sections, and details.
