Mahmooooo’s Message Kiwanis Clubs all over the world go out of their way to to serve their communities. We as a service or-ganization are unique in the sense that we do so without any expecta-tions of being recognized by those who we serve. When we are recog-nized we are gracious, and if our efforts go unnoticed we are not deterred in our resolve to serve. It is a satisfying feeling when our service and our efforts are noticed, and as a result we feel even more motivated to serve and with a renewed vigor. Our club in the past couple of weeks was recognized by quite a few or-ganizations in the communities we serve. These recognitions are a direct result of our members hard work and commitment to service. We are so very proud of all our
members who tirelessly devote their free time to "improve the world one child and one community at a time", and we hope they inspire the rest of us to do the same. In today's culture of budget cuts, whether due to dwindling re-sources, mismanagement, or cir-cumstances beyond our control, our work is never done, there is always a need for us to fill in the gaps. Lets keep doing what we do the best. Lets stay steadfast in always doing all we can to make a positive impact on the lives of those in our communities who need it the most. Lets keep investing in the youth of our communities, lets keep provid-ing them servant leadership oppor-tunities, so they will do the same when its their time to do so. They are our best hope for a better tomorrow. We are fast approaching year 2015, when we celebrate our Kiwanis 100 years of existence, and our goal of raising 100 million dollars for pro-ject ELIMINATE. Lets spread the word of both, within our communi-ties. Lets showcase this great or-
ganizations achievements to date, and spread awareness of Maternal and Neo-Natal Tetanus. Lets get our communities involved in our global initiative and get rid of MNT. Folks, $1.80 (less than the cost of a cup of coffee) is all it takes to save one life. Surely each and everyone of us can sacrifice a cup of coffee a day, if not that a cup every other day, and if not that at least one cup a week. Each of us has the opportunity to save a life or two a week, be gener-ous donate, and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Our goal is within our grasp, lets do all we can to make project ELIMI-NATE a huge success, just the same as we did IDD. Wont it be a great way to celebrate our 100 year anni-versary, as we reach our said goal.
Remember to serve, and always serve with a smile.

El Presidente called to order at 6:00 PM. Robert Barba was visibly tired, but very proudly led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Dave Wallach filling in for Tina Banes led the patriotic song, “America the Beauti-ful” was his choice. Susan Jacklin delivered an inspi-rational invocation. She talked about the infectious qualities of smiling, and how such a simple gesture can invoke positive atti-tudes. It made El Presi-dente very happy (don’t know why), when she re-minded us all to serve, and always serve with a smile Club members in attend-ance were Robert Barba, Dave W, Izzey Osman, Kathy Young, Susan Jack-lin, Tina Banes, Victoria Davidson, Lon Salgren, Jim Stewart, and Anna Wu.
Our guests in attendance introduced by Kathy Young were Phil & Blanca Hinijos from La Puente Club, joining us for an inter-club. Susan Jacklin led us in our “Welcome Song” and later introduced our late arrival guests, Bob & Ivan, and Kyra. We acknowledged Anna & Richard’s 4th Wedding Anniversary (05/23) as Susan Jacklin led us in the singing of the “Happy An-niversary” song. It was great to have the whole family in attendance, as Richard and Kyra were also present. Dave Wal-lach pulled triple duty as he sold the “Split the Pot” tickets, performed the pin & badge check, and col-lected food cans for Del Haven. Thank You Dave! Our guest Ivan pulled the
winning ticket and our guest Blanca came out the winner taking home a whopping $90 Kiwanis dollar ($9). Lon Salgren was surprised that he was not the winner, but the rest of us a bit elated. Kathy Young circulated the donation cans. We collected $3.00 for Relay for Life, $3.00 for Chil-dren’s Hospital, and $3.00 for ELIMINATE. A total of $34.00 was contributed by generous members and guests for Happy/Sad dol-lars. Susan Jacklin gave us a detailed run down of her recent trip to Australia, which was listened to with great interest by all, espe-cially Dave Wallach, as he was busy performing Kiwa-nis math, calculating Su-san’s contribution to the club’s coffers for this
amazing trip. With a little bargaining skills Susan generously contributed. Thank You Susan! El Presidente rang the bell at 7:18 PM, at which time the meeting was ad-journed as we sang “Hail to Kiwanis”. Our meeting was full of camaraderie, and good fun. Thanks eve-ryone! Happy & Sad Dollars
Happy & Sad Dollars 4/30/2013 Robert – Happy that high school graduation’s are over and he does not have to work the long hours. Lon – Happy for technology. He was in Santa Ana pick-ing up parts and returned home at 4:50 PM. His phone goes off to remind him, he has a conference call at 5:00 PM. Thank goodness he had this programmed in his phone or he would not have remembered. Jim – Happy that they are getting bids on our house. Have 3 and more will be coming in. It looks like there are good prospects for the sale of the house. Phil – Happy that the street in front of the Restaurant is finished and business can pick up again. Mahmood – Happy he survived the weekend for LTG training. Our new Governor has a very different per-sonality than the current one. He is more outgoing. The group went Zip Lining in Wrightwood. We went on the one that was 75 to 80 feet off the ground. There was one that was about 200 feet off the ground but that will be for next time. Also Happy that Phil, Blanca, Kyra, Robert and Ivan are here at our meeting. He is just a happy kind of guy, and has money to throw away! Izzey – Happy that Graduation is over because the cer-emony was sooooooo long. Sad because he had to buy a remote for his car and it cost a lot of money. Victoria – Happy because Nicholas did well in school this year. Ivan will be a Councilor in Training (CIT) at Catalina Island. Bob will be a paid lifeguard at Hol-comb. Ivan and Nicholas received the Order of the Ar-row, and completed their religious emblem require-ments.
Dave W – Happy because his Son Billy graduated Sun-day from CSUF (Cal State University, Fullerton) and daughter Kristie will be working on her Masters from Weldon. Happy, that the LTG training was well repre-sented by the Key Clubs and KIWIN’S. Anna – Happy that she has submitted the Kiwaniscope Newsletter for an award. We are in the Blue section which is a good accomplishment. She had a busy week with work and Kyra just lays and watches her. At least she is not crying. Susan – Happy because she was able to go to Australia. She swan the Great Barrier Reef but sad because she didn’t see not one single Kiwanis Emblem. She is happy to present our President with a little something from Australia. They knew who our Club President is be-cause of the picture she took and put into a picture frame. It says “Cover Up Buttercup” and is an adver-tisement for cream. The frame is her artwork. Kathy – Happy to have her car back since the damage is fixed. A piece of retread from a Semi truck was on the freeway and a car in from of her ran over it and it then flipped into the front of her car causing damage to the bumper and hood. Only took a week to repair it.

Story by Crystal Espinosa This was Wilson's first time in participating in Eliminate Week which was quite exciting for us. Because it was our first year, we decided to join up with our school's KIWINS club in the week's fundraising events. To make it a little more interesting, we made it a competition between our two clubs in who can raise the most funds. Both clubs had a number of members carrying jars to ask for donations and throughout the week, we had a table set up at lunch for people to donate to the Eliminate Project and in return, receive a cookie and a Polaroid picture with our Eliminate Instagram cutout. Our first time participating in Eliminate Week was both successful, and fun! Below are some pictures from the week :)

The Aktion Club at Del haven is collecting pull tabs for SLP’S. The Aktion Club meets every Monday at Del Ha-ven from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. We need members to attend their meetings to find out what they are doing and to let them know what our club is doing. They want to be in-cluded and informed so they can help.
