“Why do you call me ‘LORD,

LORD,’ and not do the things which I say?”

Luke 6:46

I. What does it mean?

A.Not just a matter

of WORDS.

B. Acknowledge that God is your

OWNER. (1 Cor. 6:19-20)

Don’t you realize that you body is

the temple of the Holy Spirit,

Who lives in you and was given to

you by God?

You do not belong to

yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your

body.1 Cor. 6:19-20

C. Acknowledge Jesus as your Boss or King, One with

authority who is to be OBEYED. (2 Cor.

4:5)

Receiving Jesus as Lord means

that my constant overriding goal should be to be to obey him.  Nothing else

should matter.

D. It is a matter of obedience and

LOYALTY by every disciple. The goal of a disciple is to

become like his/her Lord.

(Lk. 6:46)

II. Why is it important?

A.“Jesus is Lord” was the first confession of

the early CHURCH.

(Rom. 10:9-10)

Gentile believer “Doubting” Thomas

Polycarp Paul

B. “Jesus is Lord” is the

authoritative confession of the

CHRISTIAN (1 Cor. 12:3)

“Therefore I make known to you that …no one can say

that Jesus is LORD except by the Holy

Spirit.” 1 Cor. 12:3

Jesus is described as both Master and Messiah- “LORD Jesus

CHRIST,” in Acts 16:31.

Savior is only found 24 times

in the New Testament; Lord

is found 433 times!

III. No one can willingly and

knowingly take Jesus as Savior

and REJECT Him as Lord.

A.Christianity is not a smorgasbord of

doctrines from which you get to

CHOOSE to believe. It is a comprehensive world-view.

Jude 1:3 “defend the faith that God

has entrusted once for all time to his holy people.”

B. We are not called to make

CONVERTS; we are called to make

DISCIPLES. (Matt. 28:19)

C. It needs to be explained to new

converts that making Jesus Lord of our lives is to be “part and parcel” of our SALVATION

experience.

IV. How do I make Jesus

Lord of my life?

A.You DON’T. He already IS

Lord. (John 13:13)

B. It is your choice and privilege to

acknowledge and PRIVILEGE to the Lordship of Jesus

Christ.

C. We can only obey by relying on the POWER of the

Holy Spirit who lives in us. (John

14:16-17; Eph. 5:18)
