Opening Hymn [386]

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart, be all else but naught to me, save that thou art; be thou my best thought in the day and the night, both waking and sleeping, thy presence my light. Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word, be thou ever with me, and I with thee Lord: be thou my great Father and I thy true son; Be thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.

Page 4: WORTHING CHRIST CHURCH · that Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord! Jesus is Lord! Praise him with hallelujahs for Jesus is Lord! CCLI 2765 David Mansell ©1982 Authentic Publishing/Song

Be thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight: be thou my whole armour, be thou my true might; be thou my soul’s shelter, be thou my strong tower: O raise thou me heavenward, great Power of my power. Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise: be thou mine inheritance now and always; be thou and thou only the first in my heart; O Sovereign of heaven, my treasure thou art. High King of heaven, thou heaven’s bright Sun, O grant me its joys after vict’ry is won; Great Heart of my own heart, whatever befall still be thou my vision, O Ruler of all.

Worship Songs Jesus is Lord! creation’s voice proclaims it, for by his pow’r each tree and flow’r was planned and made. Jesus is Lord! the universe declares it, sun, moon and stars in heaven cry, ‘Jesus is Lord!’ Jesus is Lord! Jesus is Lord! Praise him with hallelujahs for Jesus is Lord!

Jesus is Lord! yet from his throne eternal in flesh he came to die in pain on Calvary’s tree. Jesus is Lord! from him all life proceeding, yet gave his life a ransom thus setting us free. Refrain

Jesus is Lord! o’er sin the mighty conqueror, from death he rose, and all his foes shall own his name. Jesus is Lord! God sent his Holy Spirit to show by works of power that Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord! Jesus is Lord! Praise him with hallelujahs for Jesus is Lord!

Song 2

Jesus shall take the highest honour,

Jesus shall take the highest praise;

let all earth join heav’n in exalting

the Name which is above all other names.

Let’s bow the knee in humble adoration,

for at his name every knee must bow.

Let every tongue confess

he is Christ, God’s only Son,

Sovereign Lord, we give you glory now.

For all honour and blessing and power

belongs to you, belongs to you.

All honour and blessing and power

belongs to you, belongs to you,

HYMN [411]

Dear Lord and Father of mankind, forgive our foolish ways: re-clothe us in our rightful mind; in purer lives thy service find, in deeper reverence praise, in deeper reverence praise. In simple trust like theirs who heard, beside the Syrian sea, the gracious calling of the Lord let us, like them, without a word rise up and follow thee rise up and follow thee. O Sabbath rest by Galilee! O calm of hills above, when Jesus knelt to share with thee the silence of eternity interpreted by love, interpreted by love.

Page 7: WORTHING CHRIST CHURCH · that Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord! Jesus is Lord! Praise him with hallelujahs for Jesus is Lord! CCLI 2765 David Mansell ©1982 Authentic Publishing/Song

Drop thy still dews of quietness, till all our strivings cease; take from our souls the strain and stress, and let our ordered lives confess the beauty of thy peace, the beauty of thy peace. Breathe through the heats of our desire thy coolness and thy balm; let sense be dumb, let flesh retire, speak through the earthquake, wind and fire, O still small voice of calm, O still small voice of calm.

John Greenleaf Whittier 1807-1892: Public Domain

Offertory Hymn [622]

Will you come and follow me if I but call your name? Will you go where you don’t know and never be the same? Will you let my love be shown, will you let my love be known, will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?

Page 8: WORTHING CHRIST CHURCH · that Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord! Jesus is Lord! Praise him with hallelujahs for Jesus is Lord! CCLI 2765 David Mansell ©1982 Authentic Publishing/Song

Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name? Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same? Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare, will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me? Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name? Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same? Will you kiss the leper clean and do such as this unseen, and admit to what I mean in you and you in me? Will you love the ‘you’ you hide if I but call your name? Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same? Will you use the faith you’ve found to reshape the world around through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?

Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my name. Let me turn and follow you and never be the same. In your company I’ll go where your love and footsteps show. Thus I’ll move and live and grow in you and you in me. CCLI 2765 ©John Bell b. 1949 and Graham Maule B. 1958

Coffee Ministry!

Christ Church is open all through the week for

everyone to pop in for a chat and a coffee. We

would really appreciate some

more help with this. You

wouldn’t necessarily have to

make coffee or tea, but in most

cases, just sitting and chatting

in the morning or afternoon would

be so helpful. Of course, if you are able to make

the odd hot drink, that would be great also!!

We are open every Tuesday and Wednesday

morning from 10.30am to 12 noon, from 2.30 to

4pm on a Thursday afternoon and from 10.30am to

12 noon every 2nd and 4th Saturday.

Please let Ken or Di know if you can come along

Roy W has taught adults to paint in watercolour for over 50 years and is starting a group for the Christ Church family. This will start on Monday 27

January at 2.00 pm. After the first meeting the course will be held in Christ Church. Initially, it will be fortnightly for six sessions, dealing with the basic techniques, paints, paper types, and general equipment needed. Traditional drawing ability techniques will only be dealt with if and when they are required. Individual expression and the beauty of what happens on the paper will be the first things to discover. Those who have experience of watercolour painting will be a great help generally. The cost of the necessary materials would be around £45. If you are interested, please do talk with Roy or Janine for more details

The Peace is, for many, an important

part of our worship during the Holy Communion service. Others may wish to take the time to reflect, rather than meet and greet the other people in the church; there is no

right or wrong, it is entirely a matter of choice, which has been, and always will be respected. Thank the Lord, our numbers are growing, but this can mean that the peace now feels like a bit of a marathon, however enjoyable. We need to make sure we address this by taking into account your views.

----------------------------------------------------------------------- Please would you complete the following, so we can try and see if we can improve things, [if needs be]. Please circle one preference, or make your own suggestion and then hand your slip to Janine or Ann P:

a] Leave things as they are Yes No

b] You are invited to say hello to those around you at the start of the service, and then shake hands with those nearest to you at the peace Yes No

c] Other suggestion – maybe something that works in a church you have attended? …………………………………………………..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
