Our second presentation is by Keith Morrison, InstantAtlas senior developer. Keith's presentation takes a look at the latest developments in the area of data loading.

NOMIS Data Transfer Tool

• New, standalone, desktop tool to import data into IAS – wizard based

• Can be one-off import of data or scheduled imports

• Uses the NOMIS REST API (& XML)

• Gives easy access to labour market statistics for IAS customers

How to apply the upgrade

• Deployed as a patch

• Does not require any new pre-requisites

• Does require IAS 6.5.1

• Not expected to have an impact on custom branding

Data Linkage: Databases

• IAS can link directly to tables in your corporate database• No need to transfer or duplicate

data – can be a “live link” (but you can “grab and go” if you want)

• Used successfully by Vermont – uses their “data warehouse” directly

Linked Data? Open Data?

• Linked Data"a term used to describe a recommended best practice for exposing, sharing, and connecting pieces of data, information, and knowledge on the Semantic Web using URIs and RDF.“ (Wikipedia, via linkeddata.org)

• For IAS it’s about making data discoverable (linked) and re-useable (open)•New “linked data API” for IAS•New “publish via CKAN” function•Support for different data file formats, alongside visualisations etc.
