This project was started by a small group of volunteers, theirpremise was to provide 10 individuals shelter from the
,,2,0 weather when temperatures reached 20 degree or colderfrom December 1 till April 1. The Project is the ONLY shelterfor homeless men and women in Johnson County. This year
.::<_l,;;,...,...,..."..,.......•.------------I the shelter opened early due to the extreme cold weather inlate November. The group is in temporary housing until they can receive an occupancypermit from the City of Olathe for the permanent location.
COLD WEATHERSHEl ER
To help this group, we are asking members to bring to our next meeting items/suppliesthat are generally used up very quickly. These supplies are used at both the shelter andare kept on the truck/van that aids in getting people to the shelter. There are those thatchoose to not come to the shelter but still are in need of items to help them cope duringthe cold nights.
Gently used or new:stocking capssocksjackets/sweaters/sweatshirtsblankets..... perhaps not quilts as they have no way to launder them
Items carried on the truck/van for distribution:candles.... not the small tea candles but tapers or larger ones, they are used for
warmthhand warmers ... can be purchased in bulk at Sam's 36 pair for $15.00protein bars... purchased at Sam's 18 bars for $16.00bottled water
The Project also tries to have a warm meal for them which is usually prepared byvolunteers and bought to the shelter, and/or if they run out they could use cash topurchase something for them to eat. We can accept cash at the meeting and will turnthat money over to them.

Mindy
Miller joined in November, 2018. She found BVQG through her sister-in-Iaw's sister,Hatch. She has never belonged to a formal quilt guild before, but did participate in aIting group when she used to winter in Florida. Friendly and welcoming is how she describesGuilc:fand making new friends is something she enjoys very much. Joann considers herself
novice quilter with a lot to learn. She mostly makes small quilted projects, but states thatis ready to become a little more adventurous. While she doesn't have a particular style,is drawn to more traditional patterns. Bright colored fabrics in blues, greens and coralsher eye. CurrentlYh Joann is working on a Christmas table runner and is going to try tothe December 13t Sit & Stitch to work on that. She is also interested in getting more
to the Guild through the Yahoo Group and the Facebook page. On a personal note, has twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren!
Allred recently moved to our area after having lived in Salina, KS for twenty-five years.he moved here to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and grandson. While at a gathering
ie Point Quilt Shop, she was invited to BVQG by an existing member. Janda has quiltedmanyyears and belonged to a guild in Salina. Until the local quilt shop there closed, shetaken many classes, including Jo Morton's Little Quilts series. It may be clear, then, thatloves reproduction quilts and has collected tubs and tubs of reproduction fabrics. Shehowever, like all types of quilting styles and is especially drawn to the bright, bold prints
Kaffe Fassett. Look for her to be at an upcomingSit & Stitch.

Contact Elaine Alexander,
The best way for the guild members to communicate with the group as a whole is by using our Yahoo Group: blueval
leyquiltersguild. This is a closed group, and you need to be a member of the guild to receive emails posted in the Yahoo
Group.
How often you receive group emails is a setting you can change to meet your personal preference.
On the left side of the page, look for the link "Manage My Groups." Click on that link, and you should see
"bluevalleyquiltersguild." If you click on drop down menu under the heading "Mail Subscription," there are some options
on how you'd like to receive the group's messages.
Individual Emails No Email Special Notices Daily Digest
Keep in mind if you choose any option other than "Individual Emails" any time sensitive messages may be received too
late for you to take action. "Daily Digest" will provide you with a summary of all messages posted the previous day. If
you aren't a member of the Yahoo Group, and would like to be added, contact Dee Sopinski.
