This project was started by a small group of volunteers, theirpremise was to provide 10 individuals shelter from the

,,2,0 weather when temperatures reached 20 degree or colderfrom December 1 till April 1. The Project is the ONLY shelterfor homeless men and women in Johnson County. This year

.::<_l,;;,...,...,..."..,.......•.------------I the shelter opened early due to the extreme cold weather inlate November. The group is in temporary housing until they can receive an occupancypermit from the City of Olathe for the permanent location.

COLD WEATHERSHEl ER

To help this group, we are asking members to bring to our next meeting items/suppliesthat are generally used up very quickly. These supplies are used at both the shelter andare kept on the truck/van that aids in getting people to the shelter. There are those thatchoose to not come to the shelter but still are in need of items to help them cope duringthe cold nights.

Gently used or new:stocking capssocksjackets/sweaters/sweatshirtsblankets..... perhaps not quilts as they have no way to launder them

Items carried on the truck/van for distribution:candles.... not the small tea candles but tapers or larger ones, they are used for

warmthhand warmers ... can be purchased in bulk at Sam's 36 pair for $15.00protein bars... purchased at Sam's 18 bars for $16.00bottled water

The Project also tries to have a warm meal for them which is usually prepared byvolunteers and bought to the shelter, and/or if they run out they could use cash topurchase something for them to eat. We can accept cash at the meeting and will turnthat money over to them.

The best way for the guild members to communicate with the group as a whole is by using our Yahoo Group: blueval

leyquiltersguild. This is a closed group, and you need to be a member of the guild to receive emails posted in the Yahoo

Group.

How often you receive group emails is a setting you can change to meet your personal preference.

On the left side of the page, look for the link "Manage My Groups." Click on that link, and you should see

"bluevalleyquiltersguild." If you click on drop down menu under the heading "Mail Subscription," there are some options

on how you'd like to receive the group's messages.

Individual Emails No Email Special Notices Daily Digest

Keep in mind if you choose any option other than "Individual Emails" any time sensitive messages may be received too

late for you to take action. "Daily Digest" will provide you with a summary of all messages posted the previous day. If

you aren't a member of the Yahoo Group, and would like to be added, contact Dee Sopinski.
