Geolog6.6-The Fast Lane to Formation Evaluation

• Petrophysical Analysis, Well Data Management, & Geological Interpretaion

Geolog6.6-Course Objective

• “This introductory course provides the geoscientist and technician with a working knowledge of Geolog. The course provides an overview of project and data structure; manual and graphic editing, data transfer, utility modules, cross-sections, working in multi-well projects and single well layouts. The course is centered around hands-on exercises, which illustrate commonly used features and functionalities”

• Courses focusing on Deterministic Petrophysics, Wellbore Geophysics, Facimage, and other subjects are available. Please visit the Customer Hub to view scheduled courses.

Geolog Basics pg. 6

Deregister a Project.

Useful for:• Whenever analysis is completed or abandonment occurs• Limiting load on server & network• Make the project & data less visible to others

Geolog Basics pg. 65

Deregister a Project

• DOES NOT delete the data

• Project directories & data remain in original location

• Data is not visible by geolog until the project is recreated (reregistered)

Geolog Basics pg. 65

Create a New Project

• All names are suitable• Avoid use of “@”• Use an “_” in place of

spaces• Public & private projects

Geolog Basics pg. 59

Geolog6.6 Behavior

• Supported OS’s: Solaris, Irix, Linux, Win2K/XP• Geolog6.6 now runs windows native!• Developed on Unix & retains Unix behavior• MB1: select item• MB2: drag item & duplicate• MB3: options• MDI-Cursor position/attribute is reflected in all open

views/windows• Browser Bar project influences all sub-apps• Feedback

Geolog Basics pg. 7

Geolog6.6 Help

• Indexed online help• Search for keywords &

phrases in documentation• Adobe6.0 recommended

Geolog Basics pg. 46

Geolog6.6 Feedback

• Running dialog of all executions & errors• User Configurable• Great for trouble-

shooting

Connect-Unload LAS3 file

• Choose: Connect-Unload

• Select a Well & Unload

format

Connect pg. 41

Unloading a LAS3 Format File

• Pick sets/curves & start unload Connect pg. 45

ASCII LOAD.TXT, CSV, DAT, etc.

• Load data files created in a spreadsheet application

• User Defined; sets, & curves

Connect pg. 25

Project to Project (copy data)

1. Choose Project to Project

2. Select input project (stars) and desired wells to copy. Then select target project (moons).

Connect pg. 48

Project to Project (copy data)

• Select import sets & curves

Connect pg. 48

Section 3. WELL-Data QC

Section 3. WELL-Data QC

• Create Log Layouts to View Data• Append Runs/Merge Logs• Despike• Normalize • Resample• Fill Missings• Environmental Corrections

Section 3. Well-Log Layout

Well pg. 12

• 11 Track Types• Datum to MD, TVD,

TVDSS, etc.• Use Layouts for

Graphical Editing• Used for Formation

& Dip Editing

Merge Runs

Well pg. 81

• Graphical merging of logs

• Merge from end to end or splice in sections of logs

Despike Logs (Curve Insert)

Well pg. 85

(not in tutorial, see Help-Xplot, Linear Transform)

Resample

Well pg. 131

• Irregularly sampled data• Reduce sampling rate• Reduce .well file size

Fill Missings

• Performs a linear interpolation across gaps

• Can occur with LWD data

(not in tutorial, use Well-General-Log Edit-Fill Missings)

Environmental Corrections

• Environmental corrections available for common logging tools

• Useful for older logs w/out corrections or as a comparison tool to achieve best correction e.g. SS/LS/DOL?

(not in tutorial, use Well-Petrophysics-Environmentals)

Section 4. WELL-Log Analysis
