Dear GCPS Families, As we move through the 4th quarter of the school year we are providing

new content through 3 two-week Modules. These are similar to the take home packets

previously provided. Each will outline a recommended timeline to follow. If you are unable to

access online material, the paper packet covers the same skills and provides some practice

assignments. The GCPS Continuity for Learning Framework suggests that students spend time

each morning and afternoon on math content. Please help your child set aside time each day,

in a way that works best for your family, to stay on track. We understand that students work

at different paces. Some will take longer while others work quickly. We don’t want students

stuck on an activity for a long period of time. Assignments are due by the Monday after the

module ends. Your child’s teacher will provide further guidance regarding on-line learning.

There are several activities your child can do independently:

• Facts practice-either online at XTRAMATH.org or paper/pencil practice attached to packet

• IXL-refer to suggested skills in grade level packet. Students are also encouraged to use the

“Diagnostic” and “Recommended Skills” features of the IXL program.

• Daily Reviews-These review previously taught skills.

• Problem solving-there are problems included in your module. If students need more practice

you can give your student 2 (or more) numbers and have them write a math story problem

using them. Then have them solve the problem! • Skill Checks-after completing new content

the skill check is intended to check for learning/understanding. Have your child complete this

on his/her own. #Online links can be accessed in a single location by going to

www.portaportal.com and entering “GCPSMATH” in the Guest Access box. Links are organized

by grade level and by link recommended for all grade levels. HELPFUL HINTS for IXL When

beginning a new skill, students can click on “Learn with an example” at the top of the page.

This will help them to understand what will be asked before they start answering questions. If

students get answers incorrect they should READ the “Explanation” for the correct answer

BEFORE clicking “Got it”. If students are still having difficulty answering questions correctly

they can look for “Not feeling ready yet? This can help:” at the bottom of the page. This will

link them to skills that may help them with the current skills.
