Why our product?

• Standardised M&E Tool – there is growing support for a standardised method of measuring intervention to ensure the well being and care of the vulnerable.

What is CSI?

• A tool to improve service delivery for children who have been orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS

• In the past, programs for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) were generally evaluated by reporting the numbers of children and the services they received. In order to provide the appropriate care, service providers need to know more. They need to be able to systematically assess the needs of children and their households and to evaluate whether their efforts are making a difference.

• The Child Status Index (CSI) was developed to fill this gap. The CSI provides a framework for identifying a child’s needs, creating goal-directed service plans, and assessing outcomes with intervention.

What is BookWise CSI?

• BookWise CSI is a software application based on the Child Status Index assessment tool originally developed by UNC Carolina Population Center and funded by PEPFAR/USAID

• VP Health Systems is working with the CRS Organisation in Lesotho to develop and implement the BookWise CSI system as an M&E tool to track child-level health and wellness improvements across their programmes.

• BookWise CSI allows Funders, Donors, OVC organizations and communities to collect and store demographic information about children, create and analyze CSI assessments, and develop individualized child care plans for each child with centralised data management for powerful reporting.

Six Areas of BookWise CSI

• Dashboard: summary statistics by partner and across all children supported by an organisation. Instant access to CSI assessment scores by domain as well as by partner.

• Child Form: repository for “static” child demographic data such as birthplace location, age, guardian, etc.

• CSI Assessment: repository for “dynamic” CSI assessment data, including height/weight, medication data, CSI scores, etc.

• Child Care Plan: repository for care management activities, requested services, and specific action items for the child based on established needs.

Six Areas of BookWise CSI (Cont.)

• CRS Well-Being Tool: repository for collecting information provided for by the child for the CRS Well-Being Tool. The System automatically calculates the well-being scores/percentages based on predefined formulas.

• CRS Home Environment: repository for collecting information about the child’s home environment.
