Humble Beginnings

• The Earliest Recorded writing

– Originally thought to be Mesopotamian, 4000 B.C., recent discoveries of tortoise shells containing ancient writing have been found in Neolithic graves in the province of Jiahu in Henan (Western China). Carbon dating suggests these are the earliest recorded writings at 6,600 - 6,200 B.C.

• The Rosetta Stone – our key to the past

– Sorted stories surround the discovery of this stone that was used to unlock the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic and cursive Demotic writ.

• The Tower of Babble – Genesis 11

Transition to Innovation

With an abundance of technology at the global communities finger tips, what are industry leaders saying?

According to Gartner Fellow Steve Prentice, companies must educate themselves on the scope and capabilities of telepresence systems.

"Companies should put aside previous prejudices and bad memories of older video-conferencing services and seriously investigate these new technologies."

- “Virtually every major Global 5000 company will adopt a technology allowing them to interact with people, no matter how far away, as if they were in the same room.”

Apples to ApplesThem: “One Codec fits all”

Most video conferencing data sharing is facilitated by converting content into video then broadcasting (H.239).

(Compression is applied regardless of the data type)

Converted VideoMP3, MPEG, PPT, PDF, Screen-Share

Apples to Apples (cont)Us: “Tailored fit – every time”

1. Each media type is handled separately2. Shared image or document files are transferred one

time.3. Once transferred, the relevant portion is rendered at

each endpoint in its original quality.

MP3, MPEG, PPT, PDF, Screen-Share

Practical Application:

The value is immediately noticed when a shared video needs to be paused, rewound, or fast forwarded.

Rather than retransmitting, the VCS only sends playback and timing information allowing endpoints to render the appropriate section of its existing copy.
