iMovie 09 is consumer-level

digital video editing software for Macintosh.

You can use to edit the footage

you film

with digital video cameras

and HD video cameras.

The sections will

help you use

iMovie to edit your

video efficiently.

01. Project Library - where all movie projects on computer are displayed

02. iMovie Project - shows current position in clip and for editing

03. Monitor Window - views clips or your final iMovie project

04. Play Project -

play selected movie project either in viewer or full screen

05. New Project - allows you to start a new movie project

06. Frame Adjustment - allows you to see

thumbnails of clips by amount of frames per thumbnail

07. Import -

where you import footage from your webcam or video camera

08. Flip Switch - swaps the

Source Video and the iMovie Project from top to bottom

09. Adjusts size of thumbnails used in iMovie

10. Event Library - where

all the events (groups of clips) on computer are displayed

11. Add selection – allows to add clips to your project

12. Favorites Tab - allows you to select

favorite clips, parts of clips, or remove clips all together.

13. Options Tab – where you can work on

voiceovers, cropping images, to adjust audio, or adjust video

14. Turns on/off Audio Skimmer

15. Edit browsers - Different editing browsers such as

adding music, photos, text, transitions, and animations.

16. Source Video - shows all events from

a particular source that can be used for editing

To begin adding photos,

you will need to create a new project.

To do this,

Click Applications folder on your dock screen

Click on the iMovie icon

When the iMovie screen appears,

Click “File” on the menu bar

Click “New Project”

The screen appear like this:

Enter the title of the new project on the box

Select the “Aspect ratio” for your project, either :

4:3 Standard or 16:9 widescreen

Fullscreen footageis

shaped more like a square.

Widescreen footage is

shaped more a like a rectangle.

You can select also the Frame rate you want

Either :

30 fps – NTS25 fps – PAL24 fps - Cinema

By clicking the “Frame Rate” box

Once you done entering and selecting the :

Name of Project

Aspect Ratio

Frame Rate

Click the “Create” button

Select photo on your file

And drag them to this area

After dragging all the photos you want,

The screen will appear like this:

Click “Play” button to view the output

Click the “File” from Menu bar

Click the “Import”

Click the “Movies”

Find the video / movie in your folder

I choose from the “Desktop folder”

Then I choose “preteens activity.mp4”

Click “ Create new event”

Click “Optimize video”

Click or Choose Full-Original Size

Click “Copy files”

Click “Import”

Rename the new event by double click “new event”

Then I Rename “new event” to “Popping balloon”

The output will be like this”

Name of the event

Click play under the Event Library to preview entire movie

Click on any of the clips within the “Event Library”

A yellow box will appear on the thumbnail

Adjust the edges of the box so that all of

the footage you want to add to your project is

within the yellow box.

After you have done, your mouse pointer appear as hand.

Grab the thumbnail within the yellow box and drag it

to the Project Browser to add it to your movie.

A confirmation box appear, click “OK”

The clip adjustment bar

alters how many frames of each

clip appear as a thumbnail.

Adjusting this can

make selecting larger or smaller portions of clips easier.

Once you have placed a photo into your project..

You have a variety of options for adjusting the clip.

These options include:

To TRIM a photo:

Click the clock icon

that appears when you hover

your mouse over a clip in your project

Just like when inserting a clip, just drag the sides

of the yellow box to manipulate what portion of the

video is included in your project.

A confirmation box appear, click “OK”

Press the play button to preview your clip;

To CROP a clip:

Click on the cropping icon in the thumbnail of clip

On the option tab, click on the clip you’d like to crop.

You can then resize the green box that appears on

the clip to control how much of the footage will be visible.

Click “Crop” button

Click “Done”

To add a sound file click the music note icon

Then simply browse for the sound file that you would

like too add and drag it into your project.

The output should be like this:

To add an image file, click the camera icon,

browse for the photo,

and then drag it into your project.

The output should be like this

Adding Titles

To add titles to a clip,

Click the “T” icon on the Edit Browser

Select the type of title you would like to add

Drag the title on top of the clip you would

like to add it to.

Select background you want

Type the title text you want in the box

Click the play button to preview

Click “Done ” once finish

Adding transitions

To add transitions to your project,

Click the “Transition” icon on right of the Edit Browser

Select “Theme” from the Transitions box

Then drag the type of transition you would like to

the place in the timeline that you choose.

Adding Animations

To add animations to your project,

Click the Animation icon on far right of the Edit Browser

Select from the animation themes

Then drag it into the timeline in the appropriate area.

After you have made the finishing touches to your video

it is time to share it with the

World.

iMovie gives you different

options for

exporting your video.

Click the “Share” tab

Then choose from the following:

Saving in iMovie is very different.

The program automatically saves your project to the

computers hard drive as you are

working.

To see where it saves automatically,

Click “Finder” on your computer dock

Click the “Movie” folder

In the “Movies” folder, you should see 2 folder :

iMovie Projects

iMovie Events
