was born in 1921 in Baku, Azerbaijan. His family later moved across the Soviet border to Iran, where Zadeh would graduate from the University of Tehran. He received a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1946 and a PhD from Columbia in 1949. In 1959, Zadeh joined the Berkeley faculty, Department of Electrical Engineering, and was named department chair in 1963.Zadeh is widely known as the father of a mathematical framework called fuzzy logic, which was an early
1965 paper on the topic has been cited over 90,000 times. He passed away September 6th 2017, at the age of 96.
