Hello Year1! We hope you are keeping well these strange and spirited time! Welcome to
the fifth edition of the Chatter. A massive thank you for all the hard work you have
been doing under very odd circumstances! We have heard of children making
themselves mini classrooms at home and being very grown up with their own work
spaces! Gosh! What a lot of business and very dedicated children we have in Year
1! We love this, keep it up! We know it can be a little tricky to feel ready to learn at
home so to begin with we wanted to remind you about your rainbow brains! We feel
SO proud of all of you! We miss you all! Enjoy the Year 1 Chatter!
It is more important than ever that you remember that it is your job to learn! You will have a
rainbow brain full of all the colours of the rainbow if you give your home learning your best
go! In school you are all amazing learners, and you can be that at home as well! Relaxing
and playing is even more fun when you feel successful in your learning and like you’ve given
your brain some exercise and a challenge.
Article 8 – Every
child has the
right to an
education.
You can do it! You can have a rainbow brain at home too!
Have a rainbow brain and say things like …
I am going to try!
I will give this a go!
I get better because I practice. I am still learning. I can’t do this, YET! I am going to listen carefully.
Once I have done my work, I can play and relax.
Don’t have a grey brain and say things like…
I can’t be bothered. I don’t want to do this. It’s too hard. I don’t care about learning. I can’t do it. I’ll do it later.
Animal revel!
Last week each member of Year 1 came up with a riddle
for you to guess the animal! Look below to find out if
you guessed right and catch up with what the staff
have been doing this week in year 1.
The animal that I was thinking of was - DUN DUN DUN!!! A Polar Bear! Did you know that even though polar bears have white fur their skin is actually black? How Bizarre! Who would have thought? I hope you’ve all been having a great week filled with fun, laughter and making lovely memories with your families. This week I have continued to go on my cycle rides regularly, as it is very important for your body to stay active so that your muscles and brain can function! I have also started to practice and improve on my drawing skills to keep me going - I started with doing a self-portrait of myself and maybe after 100 attempts it will start to look like me! When we are back we, should all draw each-other pulling a funny face and pop them up over the class - that would be great! I’m very intrigued and eager to find out what you have all been up to and will be looking forward to it very much! Until next week year one, take care - Vinnie x
Answer to my riddle: BIRD
Salaams Year 1s!
I thought I would greet you in my language this week as there is
something very special that I am doing - fasting! It's the month
of Ramadan. I am having such a good time fasting, it sounds
hard but it is fun. We all love a challenge right- it's like doing a
challenge for God not to eat or drink. So far I'm winning. Yay!
Though I must tell you I have become like a species from my
riddle because of the lack of sleep. I'm fully nocturnal! Hoot!
How are you all keeping up? I miss you and my greeting
reminded me of the different ways you used to say hello when
Miss Bowrey did the register with you all. We will be reunited
again! Love Shopna!
Hello Year 1! Did you guess what animal I was thinking of? You’ve got
it correct if you said SNAKE!! 🐍
I hope you’ve had a good week. We’ve had a busy week learning about
some of the world’s capital cities and where they are on an interactive
globe. We also explored their flags and had a go at replicating them to
stick into our book.
We re-potted some herbs in larger pots to help them grow bigger. So
now we have some plants to water on our balcony.
Next on our list, is to bake yet another cake! Although it’s been a little
tricky to get all of the ingredients to some recipes we’d like to make.
Have a great weekend and a good week ahead everyone. Stay
safe and well. Angela xx
Hi Year 1! My animal was a bat! Did you know the smallest
bat is a bumblebee bat and they are almost as tiny as a
bumble bee!
I had a mystery visitor this week, a cat came in through my
bedroom window and went to sleep on my bed! She was
very sweet and I let her stay for a little cuddle and then
threw her out!
I have ordered ANOTHER pair of jazzy dungarees. They are
yellow and blue. I will take a picture for next week’s chatter!
Stay safe lovely people, Miss Bowrey x
Hola year 1! Drumroll please for the big reveal… I am a fluffy, small
Squirrel!
It was lovely to speak to you all last week! I really enjoyed hearing all
about what you have been doing. I was surprised to hear that a few
members of our class have lost 1 or more teeth- sounds like the tooth
fairy has been working hard. Keep up with all the hard work you are
doing and remember I would love to see all your lovely work. Stay safe,
Miss Odubajo xxx
We recommend keeping to a similar timetable for the next few weeks.

Our rights
This week we will be continuing our exploration of the value Resilience by thinking about Resilience and history. We will be using VE day as our focus for this
reflection. VE day invites us to recall a time when a terrible conflict ended and people all over Europe could start the long process of rebuilding their lives after the
violence of World War Two. It was a time of great hardship for soldiers and civilians. All people had to show resilience to be able to help their communities to survive. For our families from Bangladesh the end of the Bangladesh Liberation War in December 1971 is
another example of the end of a conflict where a great deal of resilience was needed by many. As
your reflection activity for this week, I would like to invite you to have a conversation with relatives or
family friends who are in your household or available safely over the internet. If they are happy to talk about this, ask them about their stories or their parents
stories of resilience during those difficult times. How did people get through these hard times in living history?

Religious Education -
Belonging to a faith
Last session we looked at belonging. We belong to lots of
different things. You belong with your family and friends. You might belong to a choir, a dance group or a football
team. You belong to the Chisenhale Community. You might belong to a faith. How does it much you feel to belong? It might make you feel special, important, liked, loved or
included.
Some people belong to a faith or religion and some people don’t. That is fine, we are all different and that is what
makes our world so exciting.
Some people belong to the religion of Christianity, they are Christians. We have learnt about Christianity at school,
we have been inside the Christian place of worship called a Church when we did our Christmas production at St.
Barnabus. Christians all share a belief in Jesus. Have a look at the images below; they are all Christian signs of belonging. (cross, crucifix, Jesus, Virgin Mary, fish)
Christians might wear a cross on a piece of jewellery or as a tattoo. They might have a sign on their car or door
number. This is to show they belong to the Christian
faith, and to remind them of their faith.
Read the story of The Lost Coin (attached as a
PowerPoint presentation). Think about why does the woman not just settle for the coin she has but keeps searching for the missing one? They all belong to her. For
Christians this makes them think about how God cares for every single human and notices when we are lost. In the
story, the woman represents God and the lost coin is the lost person.

Remind yourself of your story. Can you add some cool actions as you read it to your parent/carer?
Literacy
Yesterday we planned our stories by drawing a story map. Today we are going to create a newspaper report! You may
have seen many newspapers as you walk into Mile End station or outside your local corner shop. A newspaper
often reports on news stories. They are written in the past tense because they are reporting on things that have already
happened. They also include a headline that grabs your attention and will have a picture with a caption underneath.
Have you read a newspaper? In your books or you can use a piece of paper you are going to pretend you are writing a newspaper report about
your animal you have chosen visiting your house for tea.

Science Physics – Physics is finding out about different forces such as pushing or
pulling, discovering about light and studying space. Recap – Last week we looked at forces, we learnt about pushing and pulling. A
push is a force that pushes away. A pull in a force that brings things close. Think of 2 things that involve pushing (pushchair, trolley, bike pedals, bath tap,
TV remote buttons, swing), and think of 2 things that involve pulling (wheelie suitcase, pull along toy- like a dog).
Today we are going to be learning about how different objects move. What does move mean? How many ways can you make your body move? (twisting,
jumping, walking, running, hopping, spinning, bending) Find a way to create a ramp. This could be using a pile of books, DVDs or a
box, then putting another book at an angle or an upside down baking tray.
Now can you gather together a selection of items. Here are mine, you could find
ones similar to mine if you like! We are going to see which item rolls down the ramp best. Put all your objects in a line of which you predict will roll down the
best to the worst. Now explain your prediction. I predict the tin foil ball will roll the best because it’s the lightest object. I predict the lego brick will be the
worst because its bumpy.
Now carry out your experiment. Take each item and roll it down the ramp.
Where your predictions correct? Did anything surprise you? Why did some items roll better than others?
There are some items like the glue stick that will roll down well on its side on the curved edge, but won’t roll from top to bottom. Are there any other items
you’ve collected that are the same?
