Can you think of any life cycles you already know?
You might have learnt about the lifecycle of a frog or a butterfly before!

Wednesday - PSHEL.O. To gain an understanding of how to budget.
We often save money when we want to buy special things that are more expensive.
We might save up for a new toy or a day trip. Adults might save up for a holiday or to redecorate the house.
We spend money on things that we need. If we have money left over, we can spend it on things that we would like to have but don’t need.
Adults have to spend money on important things like food, bills and petrol for the car.We can only spend the money we have and if we want or need something more expensive, we have to save up.
Before we can spend money we need to know how much money we have ‘coming in’ – this is called income.
26
Wednesday - PSHEL.O. To gain an understanding of how to budget.
Harold has made a list of the money he has coming in (his income) and the things he needs to spend his money on.
Use a calculator to find out what Harold’s income is.
He must spend the money on pens and pencils and a present for Kiki’s birthday.
How much does he have left to spend on what he would like?
Write your answer down ready to check it on the next slide
27
Wednesday - PSHEL.O. To gain an understanding of how to budget.
AnswerHarold’s income is £55. He must spend £10 on the things that he needs. He has £45 left to spend on things that he wants.
He could buy a poster and a new book and have lots of money left over or he could spend all of his money on a goldfish tank.
Harold really wants the LEGO set. What can he do?
He has £5 pocket money a week. How long would it take him to save up?
28
Wednesday - PSHEL.O. To gain an understanding of how to budget.
Harold had to save up for a long time to buy his LEGO set. 15 weeks!!
When we save up to buy something, it makes us feel brilliant when we can finally afford it.
Thanks for helping me to work out my budget and what I could afford!
