Waikerie Lutheran Primary School is a supportive Christ-centred community, equipping each student for life.
Message from the Principal As Malcolm Turnbull said, earlier this year, there has never been a
better time to be an Australian, I also say that a similar story is un-
ravelling here at WLPS. As a staff this year, we have set about
continuing to improve our literacy foundation which we
started last year with THRASS. We are also continuing our
learning journey in building the student’s foundation, in Maths by
focussing on learning mental strategies so that each child
experiences success with the ABC of maths – knowing a variety of
simple sums automatically.
For these two essential areas we have school wide programs that target each
learner at their level. There are three spaces set up for targeted instruction of
small groups so that students are catered for at their level.
Want to know more? Read the attached SSP flyer so that you know about this
program that all students are being assessed with. Come along to the Thursday
night Parent Information session at 6.30pm in the Hall, where you will meet our
learning support coordinator Mrs Smart, and get to hear more about our plans
for this year and into the future. It is an exciting time to be at WLPS!

Class Carers: - Would this be you? After starting the Class Carer program last year, we would again like to institute
a system of class carers within our school community at WLPS. There may be
families in need of support or encouragement; and class carers would be a
liaison to assist your Pastoral Care Worker, Moira Ganner, to provide for and be
alerted to these needs.
Some people have a gift for building relationships with others, and
letting others know they are there to care for and support them. It is a talent that
these people have to be able to be there for others in a time of need, while
maintaining confidentiality, and dignity, for another family’s personal
circumstances/lives.
Our vision: To carry out Christ’s command showing love, care and concern to
each family in our school community.
AIMS:
encourage and create opportunities for parent to parent friendship.
extend care and kindness to all families in the class.
flag opportunities for practical support in times of crisis (sickness, death, poor
health, family breakdown etc).
celebrate with families on special occasions.
create a link between all aspects of the school community (eg parents,
teachers, principal, students, pastor, school council, P&F).
Do you think that this role as class carer for your child’s class might be for you:
something you feel a passion about? Please contact Mr Borgas or myself if you
are interested.

due to statistical requirements for AGM.
Parent Information Night
This will be held this Thursday, 11th
February commencing at 6:00pm.
DON’T MISS the first session this year
as its essential!
You’ll meet Mrs Sheree Smart and hear how she
fits into the vision we have to reach each
child’s potential, and also hear how the
teaching structures have improved this year.
Classroom information sessions will commence
at 6.30pm in each classroom. A second session
for families with two children at the school, will
commence at 7.00pm. Families with three or
more children are welcome to make an
appointment with a third teacher at a mutually
convenient time.
Parent/Teacher Sharing Please note that in Week 4, there
are optional sessions for Parent/
t e a c h e r s h a r i n g ( T u e s d a y ,
Wednesday, Thursday nights). These
sessions are for either the teachers or parents to
mutually indicate if they would like to meet to
exchange information. I highly recommend
these sessions as a good way to meet your
child’s classroom teacher and share information
about your child.
Wednesday Lunch Orders Please note all lunch orders for
Wednesdays need to be placed in the
