Congratulations Wendy!
This month we celebrate Wendy
Horne’s 15 years’ service at Upper
Hutt City Library. Wendy started her
career with us as a Library Assistant
when she was just 18 years old. Wendy
is a real people person - her greatest
strength and biggest driver is providing
outstanding customer service. She
gives everything a go, isn’t afraid to
take calculated risks and always comes
up with better ways for the Library to
improve our service, especially if it
involves technology. So it is no surprise
that she now holds the role of Service
Development
Coordinator
which seems
to be a job
just made for
her.

Set up a Group ID for your family members
If you have multiple cards within
one family, the Library can now
link everybody together under
one family group ID. This allows
one primary caregiver (parent/
guardian or spouse) to view all
checked out items, issue and
remove any holds placed on
other family cards and pay any
outstanding charges on all cards.
If you would like more information
on setting up a Family Group ID,
please see one of our friendly staff

UHLIBRARY
CENTRAL LIBRARY HOURS Monday - Friday 10am - 7pm Saturday & Sunday 10am - 4pm
As part of its WW1 Centenary activities
the Library’s Heritage Collections team
are currently in the process of creating
a special section on their Recollect
website for the display of WW1 -
related resources.
One of the major components of this
section will be the Rupert Christie
Collection - an almost complete set of
letters home written by a soldier to his
family from the time of his enlistment
in 1916 to just before his death on the
Western Front in 1918. These letters
provide a vivid insight into what
life was like at that time both for
the young men training and serving
overseas, and for the family and
friends they left behind.
Volunteers for the Heritage
Collections have put in
many hours work scanning
and fully transcribing these
letters and the results of their
efforts will be made available
on Recollect this month. The Heritage
Collections team are also interested
in learning more about the Christie
family, who settled in Upper Hutt after
the Great War. Our understanding is
that Rupert’s younger brother was Bob
Christie, who served as an Upper Hutt
City Councillor in the 1960s. Anyone
with more information is invited to
contact Reid or Lauren at the Library.
