ART WALK AND SPAGHETTI DINNER
Save the Date!
Please join us for an evening of art, creative expression and dinner as we celebrate our annual
Art Walk! Mark your calendar for Thursday, May 18 from 6:30-8:30pm. Dinner will take place in
The Commons. Then before or after dinner, plan to participate with the finishing touches of an
outdoor Community Art Installation piece of wonderful weaving, as well as stroll the school
hallways for an all-school art exhibit proudly put together by our students and teachers. May is
Arts Education Month. Celebrate with us!
Volunteers are needed for the days leading up to Art Walk with the installation art piece during
lunch recesses (Monday thru Thursday, shifts from 11:45-2:15 p.m.) and with the Spaghetti
Dinner set-up, serving and clean-up. If you'd like to help, please go to this link on SignUp.com
and confirm your shift: http://signup.com/go/AHqiIeA

Green Tip of the Week: Energy Conservation
It's a simple thing to do: shut off the lights when you leave a room -- save money, save
energy! Good habits start early: remind your kids!
SNOW MAKE UP DAYS
Lake Washington School District (LWSD) will make up three snow days by extending the school
year by two days, and by changing four previously scheduled Wednesday early-release days, to
full days.
The last day of school, a half day, will move from June 21 to June 23. To make up the third
snow day, the following early-release Wednesdays will now be regular FULL school days:
May 3
May 31
June 21 and June 22 will now be full school days for students. June 21 will not be an early
release day. June 23 will be the last day of school. It will be a half day for students and a full
day for staff.
For up to date schedule information, you can refer to the LWSD Tandem Calendar
at http://www.lwsd.org/About/Pages/District-Calendar.aspx
BACKPACK AWARENESS DAY WORKSHOP
Come to the Backpack Awareness Day Workshop and learn how you can bring Backpack
Awareness Day to your school. Grassroots advocacy, the kind we do in our PTSAs, is advocacy
that starts at home and in our schools, and then spreads because of the many hands that join
in across our district. Kirkland Middle School started their own Backpack Awareness Day event
based on the National AOTA event. Now their team is sharing their how-to with all of our PTSAs
to make it easy for other schools to do the same thing in their own communities.
Come learn more at the Backpack Awareness Day Workshop!
