STATE TIMES NEWSREASI: Shiv Sena, J&Kunit leaders held a publicmeeting at Thanpal inTehsil Reasi on Mondayunder the chairmanship ofPresident J&K , ManishSahni.

In the meeting, ShivSainiks demanded toincrease the assembly seatsof Jammu province and 80per cent reservation inemployment for the youth of

J&K. Sahni said that peopleof the area have spoken tohim of lack of medical facil-ities and lack of doctors inReasi government hospital.

At the same time, ShivSena leaders also expresseddeep concern over the devel-opment of Thanpal's area,especially the poor conditionof the fisheries department.Sahni said that the pools forfish farming have dried upand there is no system to

maintain them. There is alot of anger among the peo-ple of the area about theignored attitude of BJPleaders and administration.On this occasion, about 100people in the villageThanpal got influenced bythe policies and principles ofShiv Sena, joined the party.

The Shiv Saniks also tookthe oath of patriotism andsocial service. Sahni alsoannounced Bhuri Singh asPresident Teh. Reasi Tehsiland Mangu Ram asPrabhari While Swan Singhwas appointed as VicePresident.

STATE TIMES NEWSBHADARWAH: About 60per cent citrus fruit crop wasdamaged due to recent snow-fall in this picturesque Valleyof Bhadarwah and adjoiningareas in Doda district ofJammu and Kashmir, a sen-ior government official saidon Monday.

Bhadarwah, along withKellar, Pranoo, Shiva,Bhallesa, Dessa, Chatrooand Marmat, experiencedheavy snowfall betweenThursday and Sunday.

"Nearly 60 percent of thecitrus fruit crop have suf-fered irreparable losses in thelatest snowfall, as harvestingseason starts after first fort-night of January"Bhadarwah horticulturedevelopment officer AabidHussain Tantray said, quot-ing preliminary informationreceived from the field staff.Putting the loss suffered bythe orchards in the snow-bound areas to nearly 60 per-cent, Tantray asked thefarmers not to let snow accu-mulate on trees.

It is after several years thatChenab region has witnessed

heavy snowfall in Novemberand first fortnight ofDecember and brought cheerto the tourism industry.However, it has turned out tobe a bane for locals and fruitgrowers with losses incurreddue to the snowfall touchingin crore as 60 percent of theorchards got completelydamaged as unripe fruit fellfrom the trees.

On the other hand, ruralareas of Doda, Ramban andKishtwar districts of theChenab region remained intodarkness on fourth day aspower supply lines also dam-aged due to the snow. While

60 per cent potable watersupply has been restored inthe Bhadarwah valley, mostof the localities are still with-out water.

Although the white blanketis a delight to the eyes, it hasbrought a great deal of trou-ble to the locals.

We didn't expect such aheavy snowfall. We tried overbest to save our citrus fruitbut overnight snowfall dam-aged 70 percent of myorchard. I was in tears andam still in a state of shock tosee the heap of unripe lemon,sweet lemon, Oranges andKinnu lying on the ground.

All of it has been damaged,said Sheikh Mohd Shafi ofBharova-Bhadarwah, a lead-ing fruit grower of ChenabValley. According to officials60 percent of the citrus fruitcrop including lemon,Oranges, sweet lemon, Kinnuand Mousambi got damageddue to the heavy snowfallfrom Thursday to SundayMorning. Harvesting seasonof the crop starts from 15thJanuary.

"We get no support fromthe government orHorticulture department aslike Kashmir, we are not evencovered under PrimeMinister's crop insurancescheme. I took of the matterwith DDC Doda Dr SagarDattaray Doifode during afruit Mela, although hepromised to take up the mat-ter with Chief secretary butnothing has been done sofor,"said Sheikh Shafi,President fruit growers asso-ciation Chenab Valley.

"Our family invested 11years of life to grow orchardand since last 5 years wehave been totally dependenton the the income we used to

get from these citrus fruit,mostly sweet lemon, but asingle night of snowfallchanged everything as 75percent of sweet lemons felldue to snow and got totallydamaged. Hope administra-tion will bail us out from thissituation," said SurinderKumar of Village Gajoth-Kellar.

"We removed snow afterevery two hours from our cit-rus trees even during nighthours during last three daysbut as ill luck have prevailed,we could not save our yieldjust before the harvestingseason. It was a horriblesight to see the oranges,lemons, and Mousambi scat-tered everywhere on thewhite snow, I could not gath-er courage to collect theunripe fruit from snow," saida farmer Parveen Khan ofGatha- Bhadarwah.

It is notable to mentionhere that Bhaderwah, Kellar,Pranoo and Shiva areas ofDistrict Doda are the leadingproducer of the sweet lemonin the state with BhadarwahValley contributing 45% ofthe total yield.

They also submitted thememorandum to DCKishtwar in this regard high-lighting the various publicissues. DC Kishtwar gavepatience hearing to the issuesraised by the Congress dele-gation with him and assuredthat he will take up the mat-ter with concern quartersand made an appeal forgreater participation of pub-lic for taking benefits undervarious government runsschemes.

R S PURA: Jammu KashmirNav Nirman Party Party(NNP) held a meeting at R SPura district Jammu. Themeeting was held under thesupervision of State PresidentJasmer Singh Chohhala.People highlighted variousproblems during the meeting.

While addressing the people,Jasmer Singh Chohala assuredthem that their problems willbe taken up with the concerneddepartments. Singh said thatdue to the unseasonal rains, thepaddy crop of the farmers hasbeen damaged, but no one haslistened to the farmers. STATE TIMES NEWSBHADARWAH: Police onMonday worked out a kidnap-ping case and recovered aminor kidnapped girl.

According to reports, par-ents of a minor girl (namewithheld) lodged a complaintwith Bhadarwah police thattheir 17 years old minor girlwas kidnapped by a youthfrom Bhadarwah area.

As soon as the parents filedthe complaint, BhadarwahPolice took the cognizance andregistered a FIR 187/2019under section 363/109 IPC atPolice Station Bhadarwah andinvestigation was started.

On the direction and overallsupervision of SSP DodaMumtaz Ahmed, ASPBhadarwah Raj Singh Gouriaconstituted various teams forsearching the kidnapped girland accused.

Finally the Police team ledby SDPO Bhadarwah AdilRishu and SHO Police StationBhadarwah InspectorShamim Ahmed recovered thegirl from Padyarna area of dis-trict Kishtwar. The accusedinvolved in the kidnapping ofthe minor girl has been identi-fied as Rohit Kumar, son ofBhag Singh, resident ofShakla Thathri District Doda,who has been arrested byPolice. The recovered minorgirl handed over to her parentsafter completing legalformalities.

While addressing themeeting, the DDC stressedthat Jal Jeevan Mission iscentrally sponsoredscheme launched withobjective to provide100 percent tap water to all house-holds. DDC asked the con-cerned departments toconstitute village levelwater sanitation commit-tees and submit detail

within five days.DDC asked PHE depart-

ment to submit DPR ofNarsoo, Sewna and Lattiblock while ACD wasasked to sensitize BDOsand all PRIs about theJJM scheme and ensurethat plans are framed ingram sabhas.

Meeting was informedthat all the households inUdhampur district wouldget water connections by30th October, 2020 and infirst phase 03 blocks Latti,Narsoo and Sewna will getwater connections byMarch 2020.

DDC said that the actionplan shall be aimed atimproving overall parame-

ters of environment in thedistrict includes solidwaste management, biomedical waste manage-ment, construction anddemolition waste, pollutedriver stretches, industrialpollution control, utilisa-tion of treated sewage,conservation of water bod-ies, e-waste management,prevention of illegal sandmining, widespread meas-ures to curb use of plastic/polythene, communityparticipation and massawareness, strengtheningGreen Clubs, soil andmoisture conservation,water conservation, curb-ing air and water pollutionand grievance redressal

mechanism.DFO Doda was appoint-

ed as Nodal officer for theformulation of the basicstructure of the DEPwithin two days, besidesADC Doda was asked tocollect the informationfrom all the members tomake a broad frameworkof the plan which shall besubmitted to theChairman for the finalapproval within a weektime.

Moreover DDC Dodadirected the ADC to con-vene the meeting of thesaid committee in everymonth, besides to monitorthe working of the com-mittee on regular basis.
