1. TOUCHMARK AT HARWOOD GROVES THE{FULL}LIFE July 2014 Kids of
all ages welcome summer Games, prizes, and even a clown! There is
no better way to wrap up school and get ready for summer than with
a carnival. Residents and staff organized games and passed out
prizes to grandchildren, team members children, and children from
HeadStart. Everyone had a ball!
2. If you read the title and said to yourself, wait a minute,
its July: July is the time to celebrate independence and
unification. As countries and as individuals, we are keenly
attracted to the notion of independence. Research tells us that its
our lifestylethings we do and choices we makethat determines how we
will age. According to research done at California State
University, Fullerton by C. Jessie Jones and Roberta E. Rikli, a
key element in maintaining independence later in life is sustaining
ones fitness capacity Brian Pryor Executive Vice President Declare
interdependence! CAPTURING DELIGHT{FULL} MOMENTS Putting together a
fun (and slightly messy) handmade note, Arline Hudson works with
Life Enrichment/Wellness Director Anne-Marie Fitz to press her
print on notecards that she sent to her children. Looking over the
print, Arline shared, You can learn an awful lot about yourself
when you look at your own prints. Local comedienne Auntie
Kreamsaugen (from Park Rapids Jaspers Theater) entertained during
the monthly birthday bash. She used joyful as her theme, which fit
perfectly with the laughter, singing, and dancing. Residents toured
the Fargo Air Museum, checking out the plans for future expansion.
Mayor Dennis Walaker and challenger Brad Wimmer stopped by to visit
and discuss the upcoming elections. (cont.)
3. CLUB NEWS H FITNESS PERSONAL TRAINER AWARD LIFE STORY
PERSONAL CARE PERSON-CENTERED CARE AQUATIC July is Berry Month! Did
you know that blueberries can help with your workout? The high
water content can help keep the body hydrated during exercise.
Blueberries have one of the highest amounts of antioxidants of any
fruit and are a complex carbohydrate that provides you with energy.
A handful of blueberries is a great snack to have an hour before
your workout. Blueberries are also considered to improve memory as
well as prolong the aging process of the brain. The most nutritious
way to have blueberries is fresh or frozen. Try this healthy
blueberry smoothie recipe (just throw them in a blender and blend
until smooth): 1/2 cup skim milk 1/2 cup Greek yogurt or nonfat
plain yogurt 1 cup frozen blueberries 1 tsp honey New programs to
try Circuit Training. Short on time? Try a circuit training class!
Circuit training combines strength and cardiovascular exercises
while moving from station to station. Classes are Mondays and
Wednesdays 5:30 to 6 pm. Silver Sneakers Circuit Training combines
fun with fitness to increase cardiovascular and muscular endurance
with a standing-circuit workout. Upper-body strength work (using
hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a Silver
Sneakers ball) is alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography.

be closed Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Have a
fun, safe holiday with family and friends!Touchmarks amazing
maintenance men to the rescue! This time, they helped save baby
ducklings. Diving into our work (strength, endurance, agility, and
balance). Simple, right? So why declare interdependence? Because
life happens. Appointments, other priorities, injuries, and many
other reasons all serve to interfere with or distract our attention
from exercise. Encouragement and accountability can be essential to
sticking with a fitness program. In our office, several team
members go to the local YMCA to exercise at noon. Sometimes, we
join a group exercise class together, and other days we each do an
individual program; regardless, we check in with each other. We
carpool. We rearrange schedules. During this month when we
celebrate unity and independence, ask someone to start a walking
group with you. Join a class. Walk around the corner and visit a
friend. Ask a Life Enrichment/Wellness team member about steps you
could take with others to improve your fitness capacity. Declare
interdependenceand gain more independence! For more information
about Touchmarks Life Enrichment/Wellness program or the research
regarding standards for maintaining physical independence in later
years, email me at FullLife@Touchmark. com. (cont.)
