    chorale studeNts selected to all-Metro choir Chrisman was well represented at theAll-MetroChoralauditionsonSaturday,Oct.5atParkHillSouth. SixteenBears(sophomoresthroughseniors)joinedmorethan450sopranos,altos,tenorsandbassesaudition-ing. From thosewhoauditioned therewereabout40ofeach voice group selected for theAll-Metro Chorus andaround 20 Soprano 1′s, 2′s and altos selected for the Wom-en’sHonorChoir. Three Chrisman students were selected to theAll-Metro Choir: Sophomore Anna O’Renick (Soprano

    1) seniorDavidSampson (Tenor)andsenior JerrySnow(Bass). SampsonandSnowarenoweligibletoauditionfortheMissouriAll-StateChoirattheendofOctober.Sopho-moresarenoteligibletoauditionforAll-StateChorus. TwoChrismanstudentswereselectedtotheWom-en’sHonorChoir: sophomoreAimeeDietiker (Alto)andseniorElizabethSnow (Soprano2). Both theAll-MetroChorusandtheWomen’sHonorChoirwillpresentacon-certonSaturday,January18.

    William Chrisman freshmanthoughtshewasjusttakingpartinthedailyroutine of fifth-block BEAR time readingonTuesday,October15,inthelibrary. That was until she was tapped ontheshoulderassheread. She was met by her cousin, towhomsheisverycloseto.Hercousinhasjust returned from serving inAfghanistanandDavisthoughthewasstillontheEastCoast.     AhandfulofWilliamChrismancoachesandathleteswillbeheadingtoNewJerseythissummerforthe2014SpecialOlympicsUSAGames. Three Chrisman athletes and two coaches have been selected tobeapartofTeamMissouri(MOMagic).TheathleteswerenominatedbytheircoachestoattendaselectioncampheldinMexico,MOthispastsum-mer.Theathleteswerethenchosenbasedonnotonlytheirskillwithintheirchosensportbutfortheirsportsmanship,attitude,andcommitmenttobeapartof theteam.(Athletesareeligibletobenominatedif theyhavebeenparticipatinginSpecialOlympicsforatleast5yearsandhavereceivedgoldmedalsintheirchosensports). The Chrisman athletes chosen were: Matthew Cepeda (senior)–Bocce,SamanthaSnow(senior)–GirlsBasketball,MichaelLunceford(senior)–Bowling. KathyandMikeLowry,SpecialOlympicscoachesforChrisman,werealsochosen tobeapartofTeamMissouri.Mrs.Lowry is theheadboccecoachandMr.Lowryisthesportsmanagerandunifiedpartneronthebocceteam. Theathletesandcoacheswilltrainwiththeirrespectiveteamsforthenext9monthsuntil theydepartJune14tocompete.Eachathleteandcoachmustraise$1,500tohelpcoverthecostsoftravel,lodging,anduni-forms.

  • TheWilliamChrismanvarsitycheerleaderscon-tinuetoaddtotheirhonors. TheBearsfolloweduptheirRegionalChampion-shipfromthissummerbytakingfirstattheMCCAStateCheerleadingCompetitiononSundayinColumbia. Thesquadearnedrunner-uphonorslastyearbutcannowcallthemselvesStateChampions. “I was excited,” junior HattieYazel said abouttakingfirst.“Istartedcrying.” Itwasawiderangeofemotionsforthevictors. “I amveryproud,” seniorMelissaGall said. “IamproudtobeaBear.…IwantedtogetfirstatStateandwedid.” Thegrandresultwasduetothegirls’hardworkas theyworked toperfect the routineandget ready forstate.TheeffortpaidoffonSunday. “Wehitallofourstuntsandhadnopenaltiesontheentireroutine,”seniorJessicaMorainsaid. Now,theteamisfocusedonevengreaterthings.ThecheerleaderswillcompeteatNationalsinFloridalaterthisyear. TheywerealsotoparticipateintheHomecomingParadebutitwascanceledduetoinclementweather. Two days early Straub wonthe Independence City Champion-shipsforthesecond-straightyear.

With a sixth-place finish atthe Suburban Middle Seven GolfTournamentonthePosse’CourseatParadisePointonMonday,Septem-ber 30, Olsen earned Second TeamAll-Conferencehonors. The top15earnAll-Confer-encerecognitionanditisthesecond-yearinarowOlsenhasbeenrecog-nized.Shemovedupninespotsfromherconferencefinishlastyear.

    William Chrisman High School (andIndependenceHigh)playedits1,000thfootballgameonSaturday,Sept.28againstNorthKan-sasCity. TheHomecomingGamehadextra-spe-cialmeaningasitmarkedamilestonethattook109-seasonstoreach. Entering this season, the Bears had a439-517-39overallrecord. Thesuccessfulfootball teamsatChris-man have produced seven undefeated seasons,threeDistrictTitles,and13ConferenceTitles. Numerous Bears have also gone on toplayatalllevelsofcollegefootball. Beforethegame,severalformercoacheswereintroducedandformerBearsplayerswereaskedtostandandberecognized. The2013WCHSAthleticHallofFameClasswasinductedandhonoredathalftime.

    Lookingforawaytohelppayforcollege? Well,there’sawaytogetthebasicclassesoutofthewayandhavethempaidforthroughMissourijuniorcolleges. ThisprogramisA+,andbyfollowingafewsim-plerules,youcouldgettwoyearsofcommunitycollegevirtuallyfree. Theguidelinesare;attendanA+certifiedschoolforatleasttwoyears,have95%attendance,haveaGPAof2.5,attendanA+trainingsession,anddo50hoursofdistrictapprovedtutoring. Starting with the Class of 2015, students must

    scoreadvancedorproficientontheAlgebraIEOC. ThedatesfortrainingareNovember5,December3,January7,February4,March4,April1,andMay6.Alltrainingwilloccurbeforeschoolfrom7–7:20andafterschoolfrom2:30–2:50.Thetrainingswilltakeplaceintheconferenceroomacrossfromtheadministrationwin-dow.
