The Start of the War
• The Peloponnesian War was an Ancient Greece Conflict between the Athenians and the Peloponnesian League which was led by the Spartans.

Who were the Athenians?
• People who strived for excellence no matter what the challenge was.
• Believed in the philosophy “Know thyself” and “Nothing in Excess” which was found in the shrine of Delphi.
• They loved the Olympics!
Who were the Spartans?
• Sparta was a militaristic city-state.• 80% of the Spartan population
consisted of Helots.
The Plague
• When Sparta invaded Athens, Pericles wanted the people surrounding the countryside to move inside the city walls which led to a disaster.
• During this time a plague broke out killing at least 1/3 of the population including Pericles.
An end to a War
• The war was divided into three parts• The Archdamian
War• The Sicilian War• The Ionian/Decelean
War.• The war ended in April
of 404 B.C. when the Athenians surrendered.
