Golf News Jim Holbrook won the Senior Championship in a playoff over Doug Root. Both players shot 79-75-154, this was the 10-total championship for Jim including regular and senior events here and up in New England. Doug won low gross in the second flight. Phil Powell was low gross (157) in the first flight and John Kennedy was low gross (174) in the third flight. Low net winners were Irv Bernheim (144), Jay Carrick (141) and Nigel Hilliard (136).
Welcome to all our summer members, we look forward to a lot of fun and games. The “Sundowners” is in full gear. The staff likes to play with as many different members as possible. The format is blind draw better-ball net of two, skins and closest to the hole. The maximum shots for nine holes are 12 and the maximum score is net double bogey. Also, we have the $10 game, Splinters game and the Saturday Skins game for all to join and enjoy. Ladies, besides Sundowners and WGA we have groups playing on Thursday and Friday you can join.
Monday, May 7th is our first aerification date; the range and course will be closed all day, the pro shop will be open 8:00 to 2:00. The second date for aerification is set for Monday, August 6th.
Kitty Alexander passed away on March 28th at the age of 92. Miss Kitty was the wife of Skip Alexander our golf professional from 1951-1984 and pro emeritus till his death in 1997. They raised their two children Buddy and Bunkie in the home across the street from the 8th tee. Kitty was a wonderful woman who had the strength and courage to help nurse Skip back to health after the plane crash September 24, 1950. Kitty and Skip’s story is a true love story of triumph over tragedy. Our condolences and best wishes go out to the Alexander Family (See Page 10 for More).

A reminder for good etiquette.Try not to return serves that are out back to the opponent without making a loud call to say OUT! This is not a time to practice a return of serve. Players are concentrating to hit any ball that comes back over the net. Make it a habit to let it go or knock it into the net.Always make your calls quick and concise. Let’s all be courteous to every opponent. Let’s make it a great summer! See you on the courts!Tom Judson, Director of Tennis
