Background
The newest trend in video viewing technologies is the presence of micro
projectors on the market. Micro projector prototype is firstly revealed at 2007
CES. There are currently only a few of these pocket wonders on the market.
These tiny little projectors are destined for inclusion in digital cameras, PMPs
(portable media players), cell phones, and many more tiny devices. It won't be
long before we see a Netbook computer hit the market with one of these on
the it. By projecting content displayed on the device screen onto a wall, object
or even a curved surface, mobile users could easily share Websites or
multimedia applications such as movies, personal videos, mobile TV,
photographs and presentations with friends or business colleagues.

Himax Display
Himax LCOS microdisplays and the associated projector technologies arebeginning mass production for, in particular, palm-size mobile projectors. The design and manufacturing capabilities for LCOS microdisplays areconducted through our subsidiary, Himax Display. Himax projectormodules have been adopted by many customers in various applications, and some of them have been in commercial production. For example, theAiptek Pocket Cinema projector has won a number of awards, including
the recent 2009 International CES Innovations Design and EngineeringAward and the iF product design award 2009. In addition to color-filterLCOS microdisplays, Himax also provided state-of-the-art color-sequentialLCOS microdisplays. The color-filter type has a simpler projectionarchitecture with a white LED, while the color-sequential type can offer
better colors. Himax designed both types of microdisplays for the samesize, so most of the optical components in both types of projectors can beshared. With the production of these two types of LCOS microdisplays andthe leverage of optical components, we are building up a broad supplychain of a variety of LCOS projector modules for various applications.
