Strava Run Challenge - Week 2
The Cedars Runners took it to a new level this week on
Strava. We had our greatest number of runners and despite
less runs being completed, we ran a staggering 96km further
than last week – therefore showing that our runs are
getting longer. Let’s keep this progress going throughout
the Easter Break!
THE WEEK BY NUMBERS
Runners = 88
Number of Runs = 113
Total Distance Covered = 580km!!!
STRAVA CHALLENGE WINNERS
Endurance Machine Peter Read (63km)
This is an unbelievably impressive run distance to cover in
one week! To give you some perspective, Peter ran for
nearly 6 hours this week - the Brownlee brothers, the
world’s best triathletes, usually do 7 hours of running each
week! We saw an epic battle here with Peter and Juan de
Alzaga chopping and changing the lead throughout the
week, however Peter would record one more run to
confirm the victory late on Sunday evening. It was still an
outstanding week from Juan who covered an amazing 59k
which is unheard of for a Year 8!
King/Queen of The Mountains
Elsa Santana (664m)
Best pupil = Peter Read (598m)
A very brutal number of meters climbed by Elsa last week
over a distance of 44k which is also very impressive. Well
done, again, to Peter who also covered the most elevation
gain of the pupils over his already brutal run distance.
Marathon Man/Lady: Longest Run
Mr Ashton (25km)
Best Pupil = Juan de Alzaga (22km)
An absolutely staggering distance covered by Juan who
takes the Marathon Man Crown for the second week in a
row for the pupils. Mr Ashton still had to let him know who
was boss however with his 25km run yesterday morning!

WEEKLY SKILLS CHALLENGE
Theme: Trick/Skill Shots
Following on from a range of trick shots displayed by Mr Ashton, Mr Tiffin and Mr Parish who made a special
guest appearance, our boys were tasked with being creative and showing off their accuracy in a range of trick
shots. This week we had daily winners with some absolutely amazing trick/skill shots being performed by our
boys.
All winning videos can be viewed on our Instagram Account: The Cedars Sport
FRIDAY FITNESS CHALLENGE – THE WALL SIT
Last week’s Friday fitness challenge saw our boys take on the brutal (for the legs) wall sit! There were a
number of very respectable scoring including Mrs Ashton’s 4:15, however it would be Joe Phillips who
would record the best time sent in for verification of 4 minutes and 33 seconds.

THINGS YOU COULD WATCH WITH YOUR BOYS…
Whilst I don’t want to promote screen time, should your boys take a rest from their school work and physi-
cal activity there are a few programmes, films and series on Netflix which whilst being very interesting and
entertaining, they also provide educational value:
My personal favourite is ‘Icarus’ which won an Oscar for best feature documentary in 2018. This incredibly
powerful documentary uncovered the truth about state-sponsored doping in Russia. What starts off as a
personal experiment, filmmaker Bryan Fogel ends up exposing what has now become the biggest scandal in
sports history.
I hope you are all keeping safe and well, and please keep yourself and our boys active over the Easter Break!
Best wishes,
Mr Ashton
