Giving Tree Thank You! Well, we did it! God decided to see
what would happen if “He” threw a few
obstacles in our path at the end of our
2017 Giving Tree Collection. You know
the old saying “If Life gives you Lemons
make Lemonade”. Well, life gave us a
snow storm and we took on the challenge. We complet-
ed our deliveries in time for all the agencies to be able to
celebrate their Christmas parties. Thank you once again
to all the parishioners that took tags, bought their gifts
and returned them to be sorted and delivered. Also, a
big thank you to all those who sorted, checked off the
lists and then delivered all those gifts. There were over
650 tags on the tree this year and we again took on the
task of adopting 25 Washtenaw County families that
were in need. How awesome is that! Give yourselves a
big hand and just think, only 11 more months and we get
to do it all over again. We do have a lot of big hearted
parishioners here at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in
Dexter. You are the reason Jodi and I continue to do this
job. Without the parishioners, we could not make it hap-
pen. So we say “Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!”
from the bottom of our hearts. You made this a Grand
Success!
Kathy Hirth and Jodi Robards
“Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed
together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into
your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in
return be measured out to you.” Luke 6:38

Formed Suggestion of the Week:
15 Things to do in the Midst of Suffering Suffering is a mystery we all face at some time in our
lives. Whether it is physical, emotional, or spiritual, it will
test our faith. Internationally known speaker Jeff Cavins
shares personal insights he gained through his own
physical pain. He shows us how we can join our suffer-
ings with those of Jesus on the cross, bringing renewed
meaning to the suffering we experience in our lives.

Caritas Love Takes Root is a foundation
started after a devastating
earthquake hit Haiti in 2010.
The Foundation supports an
orphanage for abandoned
children in Haiti. The request to support this charity
came to the Caritas Committee from parishioners Ed
and Robin Wojtys who, along with their daughter Laura,
have worked with it for the last several years. Ed, an
orthopedic surgeon, his wife, Robin, a nurse, and their
daughter, Laura, who is a hospital administrator,
support the orphanage and provide medical and surgical
care for children and adults, many of whom have special
needs. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western
Hemisphere and has been devastated recently by
hurricanes and earthquakes. Medical care in Haiti is
almost nonexistent, especially for those with special
needs. 100% of the dollars donated by St. Joseph Parish
will go towards supporting medical and surgical care;
there is no overhead.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration to support
Love Takes Root, along with the local charities your
Caritas contributions reach.

HUSH Documentary Coming to St. Martha, Okemos
"Women Deserve to Know"
At 6:30 pm on Monday, January 8, the St. Martha Council
of Catholic Women (CCW) will be showing the award-
winning documentary HUSH http://hushfilm.com). Indo-
Canadian Director, Punam Kumar Gill, felt that question-
ing anything around abortion was treason to her feminist
identity. But when she heard that the health information
being given to women was subject to the politics of the
people involved, and that 50 million women worldwide (1
in 3 in America) could be affected annually, she decided
to take an honest and comprehensive look at this contro-
versial subject. In the documentary, she wades through
the highly volatile and politicized research around abor-
tions' disputed connections with breast cancer, prema-
ture birth and psychological problems. This compelling
documentary is open for all in the community (women
and men) to attend- come watch it with us! Childcare will
be provided.
