the bits of a sentence
actually being said.

We also need to put some form of punctuation into each piece of dialogue
before we close the speech marks. !?,.

We also need to start a new line
every time a different character
speaks.
“Hello, Kai!” said Grace.
“Hi!” replied Kai.
“How are you?” he asked.
“I am fine and dandy, thanks!”
Reporting Clause
Include in your sentences information about
who is speaking and even how they are
speaking- using adverbs and synonyms for
‘said’. This is called the reporting clause.
“I can think!” squealed Henry Finch in
excitement.
Hiccup loudly screamed, “Let’s get out of
here before the dragons reach us!”
We need to remember:1. To put speech marks around the words
being said.
2. To start each piece of speech with a capital letter.
3. To punctuate the speech before we close it.
4. To start a new line for each new speaker.
5. Add a reporting clause that includes a synonym for ‘said’ and an adverb.
