Musings from the President’s corner
We extend our deepest sympathy to two of our members:
Elaine Kane on the death of her father and Suzanne Pfitzner on the death of
her mother.
We wish you both strength and peace.
e certainly began November well, with excellent talks on
financial astrology by Ann Collins and Renate Schnell.
Ann introduced us to the book Tunnel through the Air by
WS Gann, written at a time when fortune telling was against the law
in the US, so the relationship between Mars, Venus and the stock
market was written as an excruciating love story! Renate gave some
great tips for Trading with the Moon, and recommended a book, The
Idiot and the Moon by Randall Ashbourne, so there’s some good
reading there for those who wish to get their astrological heads
around the stock markets. Our third speaker, Helen Hartley, was
unfortunately indisposed and unable to come, proving once again
that you can plan all you like, but Mercury Retrograde will add its
own take on things. We hope Helen is fine once again.
2014 will get off to an amazing start with brilliant Canadian
astrologer Donna van Toen doing a workshop for us on Saturday 8th
February. Note that this is a week after our usual day. Donna is one
of the international astrologers lecturing and presenting a

very lucky that she is staying on in Australia and
is delighted to come to Adelaide!
Donna began her international lecturing career
in Adelaide at the 1990 conference, and returned
in the late 90s to do a workshop on Nodes,
which I attended. Donna is not only an
experienced and insightful astrologer, she is also
delightfully witty and irreverent, and I know
that her workshop in February will be a delight.

that our meetings will have one full-length
lecture or 2 or 3 shorter ones.
If you would like to give a talk next year, could
you please email Cate Whelan at

Honorary Life Member
Gillian Helfgott will present
a lecture on her extensive
research into the power of
zero. Gillian describes her
work below:
I have been busier with numerology as I have
had a desire to write a book on the ancient
Chinese numerology plus the addition of the zero
for nearly 30 years and finally got around to it
and that kept me occupied for some months.
I am introducing the zero for serious
consideration into the assessment of personal
numbers. I think very little has been written on
the power of the Zero and it does also bring in
mention of the planets.
There will be a few other surprises in her visit, so
stay alert!

Wedding Bells By
Mari Garcia
enry Charles Albert David, more commonly as Prince Harry, has
been tagged as one of the world’s most eligible bachelors. As he
nears his first Saturn Return, a one-hitter which will occur on 20th
October 2013, Royal commentators speculate on possible
marriage plans for the young prince who it has been rumoured is serious about his
current girlfriend, claiming she is ‘the one’. Harry has, in the past been seen squired
many young women and has been linked with a plethora of social beauties and models.
What does the astrology say about the Prince, his relationships and the possibility of
marriage in the near future?
Venus
Looking at his natal chart we note that Venus,
the planet most associated with romance, love
and partnership sits in rulership in the tenth
house, in a tight sextile to Mars and squaring the
Ascendant. This paints a picture of a person
who is seen as social and desirable and who
aims to be liked and approved of. Harry has
always been the more social of the two brothers.
He also has Jupiter in the first house, albeit in
fall, with a promise of enthusiasm, humour and
fun. There is a serious side to the Prince with
Capricorn rising suggesting that what drives
him is a need for physical security and stability which is realised via Saturn, lord of the Ascendant in
Scorpio, conjunct the Midheaven. To gain respect and credibility through his own efforts and to secure
his place as an authority in his own right is the key to the Prince’s happiness.
Triplicity Lords of Venus Looking at the triplicity lords of Venus can also provide us with a general indication of relationships at
the different times of life. Venus is in Libra, an air sign and this is a daytime birth. This gives us the
triplicity lords for air in a daytime birth, in their order as: Saturn, Mercury, Jupiter. Saturn, ruling the
first third of life is in Scorpio conjunct the MC suggesting that his relationships are prominent, subject to
judgment and possibly restricted by position or status. Applying this to Harry’s life, the opportunity for
a young royal to lead a normal adolescence and explore relationships is certainly more constrained by his
position. Any young woman he chose to be with would be the subject of scrutiny and public comment.
This first period would roughly cover approximately the first twenty five years of life, if we take into
H
Southern Star |Sagittarius Edition 2013 |Federation of Australian Astrologers SA Inc Page 7
account that a contemporary human life can be said to average 75 years. There is a method to exactly
determine the length of each ‘third’ of life of any individual nativity, however this would require an
article on its own. Suffice to say that the average is enough to give us a general indication.
The second triplicity lord, covering the second third of life, from approximately 25 to 50 years of age, is
Mercury. In Harry’s chart, Mercury in Virgo is both in rulership and exaltation in the 9h suggesting that
relationships although not as prominent are probably of a better quality. If we consider that essential
dignity describes the quality of what the planet delivers, while accidental dignity describes the quantity,
then the difference between Saturn (accidentally dignified in the tenth house) and Mercury (essentially
dignified in Virgo) is that the period is characterized by the quality if relationships which are ‘dignified’
rather than dignified by prominence.
The third triplicity lord, covering the last third of life is Jupiter in Capricorn in the first house. Here
again we have a planet that is accidentally dignified in an angular house but in fall. It can be said that
perhaps relationships are not as prominent as he gets older.
The Seventh House The Descendant and the seventh house has Cancer on the cusp and one can say that the Prince looks for a
partner who is sensitive, receptive and nurturing. The ruler of the seventh is the Moon in Taurus in the
5th and conjunct the North Node. According to Abu Ma’shari, planets with the North Node are increased
in fortune and as the Moon is in her exaltation this is a strong statement, promising much in the way of
relationships and indeed, the Prince has never seemed to have trouble with partners who themselves are
exalted: either socially or financially. He has had a previous long-term relationship with Chelsy Davy,
Southern Star |Sagittarius Edition 2013 |Federation of Australian Astrologers SA Inc Page 8
the daughter of a South African businessman. The two were together for five years before splitting up in
2009.
A down-side is that exalted planets expect the best so there is a caution here that either he has very high
expectations of women in his life or the women themselves have high expectations of relationships with
the Prince. The other important point is that the Moon is a significator of Mother and Harry’s mother,
Diana, is an exalted figure in his life and one who has also been instrumental in defining the challenges
he faces. As the ruler of the seventh house, the Moon plays a very important role in describing and
defining relationships in the Prince’s life. It is a very big task for any woman to live up to the precedents
set by his mother as she has such an exalted position in his psyche.
The Prince has been heard to say that his present girlfriend may be ‘the one’ and so the concern is to look
at the possibilities of marriage for the prince in the next twelve months. So far, the indicators are that the
potential for marriage natally is quite good. The indicators of the 7th house, its ruler and Venus and her
condition do signal a person who can and has formed relationships.
Progressed Lunar Phase & Saturn Return Looking at Harry’s predictive work for the next twelve months, he entered the Disseminating phase of
the progressed lunar cycle and at the same time he experiences his first Saturn Return with one hit on the
26th October, 2013. Both of these provide an important backdrop with the Saturn Return indicating a time
when the person is ready to make a commitment to their lives, to be taken seriously and to ‘grow up’.
Saturn, in Harry’s chart is conjunct the MC and indicates that that commitment is to his career, goals or
public life.
Harry, as the ‘spare heir’ does not carry the onerous responsibilities that his older brother does but
nevertheless, he has his own official duties to see to. Over the last twelve month he has led official visits
to Belize, Bahamas and Jamaica as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, travelled to Brazil as
an ambassador of the 2012 Olympics and represented his grandmother, the Queen, at the Closing
Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. He also went on tour to the USA to promote the
rehabilitation of injured American and UK troops, and publicised his own charities and supported British
interests. Just recently he conducted his first official visit to Australia to represent the Queen at the
International Fleet Review, part of the Royal Australian Navy’s centenary celebrations. Royal watchers
have commented that Harry’s official duties have increased with the expectation that he will take on
more responsibility commensurate with his position as fourth in line to the throne. This mirrors very
well the impending Saturn Return and its demand for greater credibility and accountability.
Firdaria The Firdaria is a technique of planetary periods which colours certain times of a person’s life, determined
by the planetary lord of that period. During its period, the planet has a heightened influence upon the
native especially when it is mirrored in other predictive methods such as profections, solar returns and
transits.
Southern Star |Sagittarius Edition 2013 |Federation of Australian Astrologers SA Inc Page 9
As a day time birth, Harry is now in a Mercury firdaria with Mercury signifying learning, dexterity,
intellectual pursuits and contracts. In Harry's chart, Mercury rules the sixth and ninth houses and is the
natal significator on matters to do with his obligations
(sixth house) as both a member of the Royal family and
the British defense force are emphasised as well as travel to
foreign places (ninth house). Since 2002, the beginning of
this Mercury period, the Prince completed his secondary
education and embarked on a military career in which he
has achieved the rank of captain, seeing active service in
Afghanistan. He has also taken up a greater range of
Royal duties including that of Counselor of State when the
Queen was abroad to attend the 2005 Commonwealth
Heads of Government Meeting in Malta. This coincided
with the firdaria period of Mercury/Saturn and his official
visits as the Queen’s representative in 2012 were
undertaken in his Mercury/Sun period reflecting his role as
the representative of the sovereign, a very solar statement.
Now, as he is about to enter his Mercury/Venus period, we
expect the emphasis to turn to relationships and marriage.
Profections Mercury’s prominence in his life is heightened as by the technique of profection (moving a planet or
point forward at the rate of one sign per year) the Ascendant moves to the sign of Gemini, highlighting
the sixth house and emphasizing the role of Mercury in the period in question.
This is an important time for the Prince, with the emphasis on duty, obligations and responsibility as
highlighted by the profected sixth house and mirroring the Saturn Return.
Mercury, as lord of the year, is natally in the ninth house and receives a square from Uranus, a trine from
Jupiter and aspects the Capricorn Ascendant. It is plugged into the Cross of Matter and it can ‘see’ by
aspect both Gemini and Virgo. Additionally, Mercury is in both rulership and exaltation, suggesting that
this is a year in which the Prince will have the ability to direct his actions in order to fulfill both his
responsibilities (sixth house) and realise his personal quest for knowledge (ninth house).
Abu Ali tells us that Mercury in the ninth house signifies, “…instruction, moderation, knowledge and the
experience with many hidden things.”ii Prince Harry has shown himself to be an apt pupil in military
matters and his military experience has also been undertaken in secret, in order to protect him and his
fellow soldiers from targeting by insurgents. In a year when Mercury is such a high profile lord, we can
expect that there will be many ‘foreign’ engagements either with the military or as part of official duties.

Twitter goes public… By Renate Schnell
On 7th November this year, social online networking and microblogging company ‘Twitter’ went public.
Listing on the New York Stock Exchange, Twitter’s first trade is recorded as occurring at 10:49am.
According to the NY Times analyst: “Twitter is a company with no earnings and no prospect of earnings.”
Now that really doesn’t sound like a wise investment!
My broker sent me information on the Initial Public Offering at $26 (US) a share. I had a quick look at the
ephemeris and noted Mercury was retrograde. ‘Well I thought … Not for me … You people have no idea
what goes on in the heavens!’
Being curious, I checked on the 7th November to see how Twitter had performed on its first day on the
Stock Exchange. I couldn’t believe it! Twitter had opened at $45 and had gone even to $50! What had I
missed!
Looking at the first trade chart (7th November 2013, 10:49am NY), the first thing I noted is that both Moon
(the public) and Pluto (intensity and power) conjunct the Ascendant. Venus (also conjunct the Asc)
sextiles Mercury - which conjuncts the MC - nice angularity to the chart!
People are emotional about this stock (Moon conjunct Asc) and talk about it (Mercury conjunct MC). Are
their emotions missed placed however? … The moon is in detriment afterall!
The most powerful planet in the chart is
Jupiter. Jupiter is stationary - a planet at
station has more power than a direct
planet.
Time will tell. However, I believe
Twitter will do well!

Wedding Bells ... continued
The lord of the year, Mercury also echoes the
Mercury firdaria suggesting that the matters
signified by the planet and the natal houses it
rules become a dominant factor in Harry’s life
at this time.
Solar Return
Looking at his Solar Return for Prince Harry’s
last birthday in September of this year, we see
first of all that the lord of the year, Mercury
sits in prominence in the tenth house and it
receives an opposition from Uranus,
suggesting that this is a year in which the
Prince gains a level of prominence which may
be unexpected or as a consequence of upsets or surprises. This is further emphahsised by Mars which
trines the Uranus, makes a wide sextile to the Mercury, adding physical action and volatility.
Mercury also squares the Solar Return Ascendant emphasizing that the Prince will be looking to take
matters into his own hands, to exercise a level of control in situations that occur.
This is further highlighted by the fact that his natal Ascendant of 11 Capricorn sits in the Solar Return’s
first house. The placement of the natal Ascendant in the Solar Return describes what natal issue will be
‘rising’ for the person and for Harry, it is his vitality and his motivation. Conversely, the Solar Return
Ascendant is at 12 Capricorn, mirroring the natal Ascendant and its placement in the natal first house
suggests that Harry is ‘preoccupied’ with his body, vitality and motivation.
Natally, the first house also has Jupiter in fall and angular, providing him with optimism and a certain
vigour. The Solar Return first house has Pluto which is in the same degree as Saturn and the North Node.
Saturn, lord of both the natal and Solar Return Ascendants is in the eleventh house in both the natal and
Solar Return charts, conjunct or very close to the Midheaven, and in the Solar Return, in the same degree
and conjunct the North Node. Saturn’s prominence in the Solar Return reflects the Saturn Return and its
concerns of reputation, integrity and authority. This is a very important year for Harry as he is now in a
strong position to take control of his life, to realise his goals and ambitions and most especially to
establish his reputation, career and status. We can also say that the year will see some radical or
profound changes as Pluto rises and we could postulate that perhaps this signals the metamorphosis
from easy-going bachelor prince to responsible royal. Another change may be if the Queen either
relinquishes her royal duties or passes away, the Harry moves up the succession ladder as his father
Southern Star |Sagittarius Edition 2013 |Federation of Australian Astrologers SA Inc Page 13
would then ascend to the throne. This will then escalate both his level of responsibility and also his
status and exposure.
The talk of his current relationship and media speculation on an impending marriage can also be seen as
a major expression of the Saturn Return.
Transits During this period, Harry will experience transits of Pluto to his Ascendant, Saturn to his MC and Jupiter
to his Descendant. Additionally, Saturn comes to oppose the Moon. The transits all underscore what has
already been outlined in the Solar Return, profections and firdaria.
The transits of the Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto on three of the four angles herald this period as a major
turning point in Harry’s life. If we look at when Mercury, lord of the year also starts to hit these angles
then we will see when these transits are activated. At the time of writing, Mercury has just gone
retrograde at 18 Scorpio right on the natal IC and it will retrograde back to 2 Scorpio where it goes direct
on the 11th November 2013. On the 26th November, Mercury conjuncts the natal MC together with Saturn,
suggesting the possibility of the announcement of an engagement. This may also be an opportunity to
flag changes to his royal duties.
A royal wedding could be timed for the northern hemisphere spring or summer as Saturn conjuncts the
MC in June at the retrograde hit and finally again in August. At the same time Pluto conjuncts the
Ascendant three times in 2014: in January, August and November while Jupiter makes its final hit on the
Descendant in March. While the gossip columns have hinted at a spring wedding it is more than likely
to be scheduled in July or August. An April wedding would be associated with William’s which was
held in April 2011, therefore scheduling a wedding for the July August would provide some distance so
that the brothers would not share a wedding anniversary.
By his next birthday in September 2014, Harry
enters a seventh house profected year,
emphasising marriage and relationships, with
the lord of the year being the Moon. In the 2014
Solar Return, the natal Ascendant sits in the
eighth house of the Solar Return suggesting that
the natal issues arising in this time will be issues
of changes/crisis and shared resources.
Significantly, this Solar Return captures the final
hit of Pluto conjunct the Ascendant,
underscoring the changes that have been
unfolding during the past year or so. The 2014
Solar Return Ascendant at 16 Gemini sits in the
natal sixth house suggesting that he will be
preoccupied with duties and obligations.
Southern Star |Sagittarius Edition 2013 |Federation of Australian Astrologers SA Inc Page 14
Additionally, the Moon, the lord of the year sits in the Solar Return first house conjunct the Ascendant
emphasising the prominence of marriage and relationship matters. On a final note, Harry will also
experience a Venus Return in October 2014.
In closing, news reports have said that marriage has been on the Prince’s mind and it will be interesting
to see how the astrology outlined here is played out in real life. The astrology suggests that an
announcement to be made late in 2013 and the wedding to take place in the summer of 2014.
