GRIEF SUPPORT! Our Grief journey after a loved one passes on can often be confusing and painful, and often the expectations of others can make us feel as if we are alone or that there is something wrong with us if we grieve
differently than what they expect. Grieving with Great Hope Workshop is a five-week experience where you can come together with others that are grieving as well and learn about how to mourn with intention and work through your grief with hope! We would like to offer this workshop beginning in February. Please call Leslie at 483-2317 Ext. 226 if you are interested in attending.
Respect Life: Recently, the annual March for Life was held at our state’s capital. People from all over the state came to show their support for the over 61 million pre-born babies lost to abortion (nation-wide) and to pray for the babies that are not safe in their
mother’s womb. But there is Good News for those hurting from abortion. The Silent No More organization released a project called “Healing the Shockwaves of Abortion.” The aim of Shockwaves is to reach out to those impacted by the loss of a child through abortion: parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, abortion workers, and even the abortionists themselves. Do you need resources for healing and help? Do you know of others who may need help? See http://www.silentnomoreawareness.org/shockwaves/ for more information.
The Pastor’s Corner:
In today’s gospel Jesus gives the Beatitudes as Luke recounts the story. Matthew gives eight beatitudes; Luke gives four beatitudes and four woes. Perhaps, like the man in our gospel, we have heard the Beatitudes so often they don't register. We come to think that they are so counter cultural that Jesus couldn't really have meant them to be followed.
The Beatitudes are Jesus' formula for a Christian life. In them Jesus says that those who go through certain very painful experiences in life, but who do so for his sake and relying on him to help them, are "blessed." Another word for "blessed" is "happy."
Happiness is not always a warm fuzzy. People can be happy when they are living as Jesus directed, even though their life is poor and difficult. The operative words are the ones Jesus uses when he says, "for my sake."
Poverty is one of the beatitudes: "Blessed are the poor." Jesus says. Matthew finishes this off by having Jesus say, "in spirit". Luke drops this phrase and has Jesus saying simply, "Blessed are you poor...." In Matthew's account, Jesus is speaking to the people on the Mount who have followed him. In Luke Jesus is speaking directly to the apostles. That's why Luke has Jesus use the word "you."
The Beatitudes give us much food for thought. We thank God if we are living them as much as we can each day. We are the happier for it, and the kingdom of heaven grows stronger here on earth as we strive to live the beatitudes.
Thank you to all our parish organizations that make and serve our Wednesday evening meal for Faith Formation. It shows how much you care about our young people’s faith and they appreciate the food and friendship during the meal. Last Wednesday the CDA of Lismore served “Walking Tacos” ... great job and Thank you to all groups who provide the Wednesday meal. ~ Fr. Colletti
