• Network of actors (individuals,
organizations and enterprises), together
with supporting institutions and policies
in the agricultural and related sectors
that bring existing or new products,
processes, and forms of organization
into social and economic use.
• Policies and institutions (formal and
informal) shape the way that these
actors interact, generate, share, use
knowledge and jointly learn.

Tropical Agriculture Platform in a Nutshell
Background:
Launched as a G20 initiative in Mexico in 2012 driven by commitment of 20 institutional partners.
Charter adopted at 1st
Partners’ Assembly in China in 2013.
Emphasis on voluntary cooperation among partners.
Aim of TAP:
Multi-lateral mechanism aiming to improve efficiency and effectiveness of knowledge sharing and capacity development programmes for strengthening Agricultural Innovation System (AIS) in low and lower-middle income countries. Strong focus on greater coherence, harmonized action, mutual accountability and avoiding duplication.
Main achievement:
Development of the Common Framework on Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation Systems. Valuable lessons learned from the EU-funded CDAIS project (2015-2019) jointly implemented by Agrinatura and FAO.

TERRITORIAL APPROACHallows to acknowledge diversity of territories, with their specific natural and social capital, and to acknowledge, motivate and integrate stakeholders, both farmers and their organizations, and administration »» leads to a better understanding of differences in development opportunities and to capacity of action
What have we learned so far ?
MANY DIFFERENT ACTORSrelated with Small Farms and their integration in Food System: skilled, knowledgeable, motivated … BUT with low level of soft skills and very little support
RESEARCHcan launch new processes and gather different actors around common initiatives
