● This is a table that shows the number of victims in each decade until 2010.
● Even though there are only serial killers till the 1900’s there very well could have been serial killers before that time period.
● The first serial killer was H.H. Holmes in the United States.
● One key point is most serial killers do take a lot of thought to picking out their victims. They need to feel powerful over the victims that they choose.
H.H. Holmes “The Devil in the White City”● First serial killer in US recorded history● Born “Herman Webster Mudgett” in 1861● Abusive childhood● He was bullied which caused his fascination
with skeletons○ Turned into obsession of death
● After graduation, changed his name to Henry Howard Holmes
● Studied medicine in college○ Stole cadavers for insurance scams
● 1885 worked for a pharmacy and eventually become the owner of the drugstore
● Very intelligent and charming
How Holmes Became a Killer
● 1889 bought an empty lot across from his drug store● Designed his “Castle”
○ 3 story hotel● Hired and fired construction workers so no one had a
clear picture of the “murder castle”● Completed in 1891 and placed ads for young female
workers or a new wife with life insurance
● 1893 Chicago World’s fair● “The White City”● Jack the Ripper influence
Inside the Castle
● 1st floor had stores● 2nd and 3rd floor had his office over 100 hotel
rooms○ Soundproof w/ gas lines
● trap doors, peepholes, stairways to nowhere, and chutes that led to the basement
● The basement was like his “lab”● dissecting table, stretching rack, and
crematory
How He Was Caught● After the fair, he commited scams with Benjamin Pietzel
● Later was arrested and schmed a new fraud with his cell-mate

● Ended up killing Peitzel and 3 of his children
● Arrested a 2nd time
● Confessed to 28 murders
● Hanged in May 1896
● Buried under 10 ft concrete

Ted BundyTheodore "Ted" Bundy was born on November 24, 1946 and got executed on January 24, 1989.
Ted Bundy was a well known 1970s serial murderer, rapist and necrophiliac.
His killings usually followed a gruesome pattern. He often raped his victims before beating them
to death.
He admitted to killing 36 young women across the county. But experts believe that the real
number might be closer to 100 or even more!!
Ted Bundy's EducationTed Bundy was actually a very bright child. He was fascinated with knives at a young age. But
was very shy with other students.
His teenage years is when the dark side of Ted came out. He would sneak around and look into
young girls bedroom window and just watch them.
He attended The University of Washington and fell in love with a beautiful wealthy women. He
was devastated after the break up and most of his killings resembled the girl he loved in college
that broke his heart.
He graduated from University of Washington with a degree in psychology in 1972 and had been
accepted to law school in Utah. While excelling in school he was committing these gruesome
murders.
Execution of Ted Bundy
On January 24th 1989 around 7 a.m Ted Bundy was put to death by the electric chair at Florida
State Prison.
Crowds cheered and set off fireworks outside the prison after his execution.
He was cremated in Gainesville Florida and had no public ceremony. Before being put to death
he requested his ashes be scattered in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State, where he
murdered at least four of his victims.
Jeffrey Dahmer ● Well known as the cannibal serial
killer● His killing spree was between the
years of 1978-1991● He didn’t just kill 17 men, he raped,
dismembered, and also took part in necrophilia
Jeffrey Dahmer’s Childhood● Dahmer had a normal childhood ● But as he grew older he become
withdrawn, didn’t find any interest in hobbies
● He attended college but dropped out because of alcoholism
● Jeffrey’s father made him enlist in the army as a combat medic in 1979
The Ending of his Life ● Jeffrey Dahmer's trial was on
January 30th, 1992● He was indicted on 15 murder
charges ● He was sentenced to 15 life terms● Later that year he pleaded guilty to
another life that he took ● He served his time in Columbia

Charles Manson Childhood
● Born to the name of Charles Milles Maddox to a 16 year old by the name of Kathleen Maddox
● Kathleen later married William Manson where Charles picked up the name
● Lived on the streets a lot of his childhood getting by through petty crime
Charles Manson’s Cult
● American cult leader whose followers carried out several gruesome murders in the 1960’s
● Cult was known as the Manson Family Cult, and shared a passion of using hallucinogenic drugs
● Followers believed he was “Jesus”
Marriages and Kids
● Married Rosalie Jean Willis and had a kid named Charles Manson Jr.
● Divorced and eventually married a prostitute named Leona Rae “Candy” Stevens and had his second child named Charles Luther Manson
● Divorced again and got a marriage license to marry Afton Burton who called herself “Star” at the age of 80

● First of Manson’s murders were on August 9, 1969
● “The Manson Family” is thought to have carried out 35 killings
● Manson never actually took part in the killings but directed his followers to do so
● Crimes were known to be very gruesome
