POULTRY farmers might beclucking with delight over anew machine designed toimprove chicken littermaintenance.
The Inlon Regen machine groomsand aerates the surface of the litter using a rear comb to manicure the bedding floor.
The device can be attached to a low-powered compact tractor and navigate through confined poultry shed areas.
Inlon sales and marketing manager Gary Surman said it was more efficient than manual techniques and designed to improve the environment and welfare of chickens.
“The machine will break down thelarge caking that appears on the floor,” he said. “It has an integrated rear comb to ensure that large cakes are all reduced while retaining a reduction of the litter, the stuff the chickens love to get into.
“The special rotor and refining combs ensure a dry and fluffy consistency. The addition of rear combs (helps) further refine the material.”
Inlon tested the time-saving
technology with Kulnura, NSW, poultry farmer Jason Galea.
Mr Surman said that since usingthe machine, Mr Galea had met stringent maintenance requirements, earning the RSPCA Paw of Approval logo on his products.
Mr Galea, who has six sheds with
120,000 birds, said the Regen machine had potential to cut his manual workload.
“The machine does most of my work,” Mr Galea said. “I don’t have to clear out the material after every batch and there’s much less odour because it stays so dry.
“The long-term impact is healthierand makes for happier birds, lower bird mortality rates and reduces my cycle costs for a more productive poultry farm.”
The base model of the Regen machine costs $6270, with the high-end product pushing towards $7000.
