Feast the Holy Family
From Christmas Day to New Year’s Day is the Christmas
octave. Octaves are eight0day weeks. Of course, an ordi-
nary week in seven days. It’s what we expect. But eight
days? That’s something strange and wonderful.
In Christian symbolism, eight days represent eternity. May-
be that’s because an eight-day period begins and ends on the
same day of the week. (Christmas and New Year’s always
fall on the same day of the week.) Christmastime is a sea-
son to live with one foot in eternity.
Christmastime is filled with feast days. The first Sunday of
the season is the feast of the Holy Family. (Unless of
course, Christmas Day is itself a Sunday. Then the feast is
kept on December 30.)
Holy Family Day is a favorite time for family reunions.
Students are home from school and many people have extra
days off from work. Like every day of Christmastime, its
an occasion for feasting and caroling and relaxing. Some
people say that the nicest part about Christmastime week-
ends is that there’s finally some time to sit back and enjoy
the decorations and music and good company.
The parish office is open Monday, December 30th from
9:00AM-5:00PM, Tuesday, December 31st from 9:00
AM—12 Noon, and closed on Wednesday, January 1st
in observance of the New Years holiday. Regular hours
will resume on Thursday, January 2.

A new ADW policy was put in place in July requiring all
volunteers to be fingerprinted. The deadline for volunteers
to complete this process is January 31, 2020. If you start-
ed the child protection compliance process in September
2013, and only had an electronic background check com-
pleted, you will need to get fingerprinting done. For your
convenience, ANS will have an authorized tech available
to provide fingerprinting services for our volunteers
Wednesday, January 8 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Parents
may preregister at the following link: https://
secure.safehiresolutions.com/livescan-pre-registration-
application/. Hard copies of the form will also be availa-
ble.
The cost of the fingerprinting will be $55 per person if you
are using cash or check; the cost is $60 for using a credit
card. Failure to complete this process will mean that your
VIRTUS account will become inactive and you will not be
able to volunteer where you come in contact with children.
This also includes chaperoning field trips.
Please contact Patti Lockrow if you have any questions or
need assistance in determining if you need to have finger-
printing completed.
