NUNO COSTA-BORGESis an embryologist that has been involved in both research and clinical practice for over 15 years. As a PhD fellow of the Portuguese national funding agency for science (FCT), Nuno spent several years developing strategies to improve the efficiency of animal cloning, having accomplished the first animals successfully cloned in Spain in 2009. After finishing his PhD at the University Autonomous of Barcelona, he joined the embryology team of IVI Barcelona, where he has worked as a clinical embryologist. Later on, he co-founded Embryotools, where he has been devoted on offering QC tests, training and consulting services to the IVF community worldwide. Additionally, as scientific director of Embryotools, Nuno has also been committed to the development of new IVF techniques, such as, the flicking method for the biopsy of blastocysts or the maternal spindle transfer technique to prevent the transmission of mitochondrial diseases or infertility problems related to poor oocyte quality. Nuno’s work has led to several peer-reviewed publications and he has been invited speaker in numerous international conferences and scientific meetings, as well as, awarded with prestigious prizes and grants. Just recently, one of his works on the spindle transfer technique has been awarded with the PaperPrize of the congress of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) in 2017.

EFFECTIVE ACADEMIC WRITING & LOGICAL MANUSCRIPT STRUCTURE
Dr. WARREN RAYEHead of Outreach & Partnerships, EMEA
& Australasia, Nature Research
Dr. WARREN RAYE After graduating in 2005 with a PhD in Molecular Virology, Raye worked as a Researcher and Lecturer at Monash University (Melbourne, Australia) in the cutting-edge field of stem cell biology. In 2010, he decided to branch out from academia and became more involved in the publishing world when he relocated to Fukuoka, Japan. Warren led a team of Senior Editors at one of the world's leading language editing and education companies. In addition to his editorial duties, Raye facilitated training and educational seminars for academics whose first language is not English, with the aim of improving their writing and communication skills. He has facilitated more than 200 of these seminars and workshops across Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, and Latin America. In 2013, Warren moved yet again, this time to London, and began working closely with a number of publishers to develop digital products suitable for authors in emerging markets. To better understand the needs of authors in these markets, he decided to continue this work in Beijing, China. Warren joined Springer Nature in 2015 and is Head of Outreach and Partnerships, serving Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
This author academy on effective academic writing helps researchers from all fields improve the quality of their manuscripts. Strategies will be given on enhancing the clarity and conciseness of the English language such that it is adapted to the readership of international journals. We will focus on the micro-structure of the manuscript, giving tips on writing effectively, logically presenting ideas, improving the readability and using proper tenses.
Effective Academic Writing
Logical Manuscript Structure
This author academy focusing on manuscript structure helps researchers from all fields improve the quality of their manuscripts. Strategies will be given on how to efficiently draft a manuscript and collaborate with international co-authors. We will focus on the macro-structure of the manuscript, analysing the content of each section, creating attractive figures with data, writing impactful titles and abstracts and understand the requirements for authorship. This workshop is meant to be highly interactive between the trainer and attendees and includes several activities.
