Reno CyberKnife is a service of Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
What is CyberKnife? The world’s only roboGc radiosurgery system, CyberKnife treats paGents with a procedure called stereotac(c radiosurgery. StereotacGc radiosurgery is a noninvasive method of treaGng tumors with high-‐dose radiaGon precisely aimed from different angles.
How does CyberKnife work?
CyberKnife does not require surgery and there is no cu7ng or anesthesia required. Comprised of a compact linear accelerator -‐ a machine that generates a radiaGon beam -‐ aTached to a highly maneuverable roboGc arm. • The machine’s roboGc arm moves around you, aiming and
firing targeted radiaGon beams from numerous angles. • The imaging and tracking system conGnually updates the
tumor locaGon throughout the treatment procedure, compensaGng for paGent movements like breathing.
• Treatment sessions typically last 30 -‐ 90 minutes.

Why Choose CyberKnife?
• Treats paGents in as few as one to five visits • No cu[ng and no anesthesia required • Minimal side effects • OutpaGent procedure • Constantly corrects for tumor or paGent movement
throughout procedures
• Reaches most tumors from virtually unlimited direcGons with roboGc mobility
• Minimizes radiaGon exposure to healthy Gssue surrounding a tumor site
• Lesions previously treated with maximum allowed radiaGon doses may be treated

CyberKnife Treatment
Technicians help you onto the
treatment table
CyberKnife’s roboGc arm moves around you firing targeted radiaGon
beams
The advanced tracking system takes x-‐ray
images to ensure the radiaGon beam
remains locked on the tumor
If needed, the paGent returns for
up to 4 more treatments.

The US Radiosurgery Network
In partnership with Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Reno CyberKnife is a US Radiosurgery facility. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, US Radiosurgery is a division of Alliance Oncology and partners with hospitals and physician groups around the U.S. to develop and operate full-‐body radiosurgical centers. Collec(vely, the US Radiosurgery network of centers has treated thousands of pa(ents since the opening of the company’s first center in 2003. The group of faciliGes is acGvely engaged in research, with physicians regularly presenGng papers and authoring arGcles related to the efficacy of CyberKnife treatment for various types of tumors and lesions. Tumors of the lung, brain and prostate, as well as certain funcGonal disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia, have become key treatment areas throughout the network of centers.
