During Your Visit to NorthwestweLCome
It is our goal that your campus recruiting visit to Northwest provides a maximum benefit to you. If there is anything we can do to make your visit more productive or enjoyable please let us know. Upon arrival to campus please check in with Career Services to receive your recruiting folder. Our office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. With prior arrangements we can accommodate extended recruiting hours. We are located on the first floor of the Administration Building, Room 130.
ParKingEmployers participating in On-Campus Interview days, Information Sessions, “Mock” Interviews and Employer Panels will receive a parking pass through e-mail or it may be provided the day of the event.
For all Career Day and Education Expo events, parking lot 62 will be reserved to accommodate employer parking needs. This lot is located just west of Lamkin Activity Center, across the street from the Ron Houston Performing Arts Center. A shuttle is scheduled to transport employers from the lot to the Lamkin Activity Center during the morning registration times and after each event.
If a ticket is received for improper parking or improper placement of the provided parking pass, it will be the responsibility of the car’s owner.
reCruiting materiaLsEmployers will receive a folder containing a copy of the interview schedule, resumes, a campus map, a list of majors and an evaluation upon arrival.
exPeCtation oF intervieweesWe have a No-Show policy in place for all candidates that wish to schedule an interview on campus. If a student misses an interview or cancels an interview with less than 24-hours notice they are required to write a letter of apology to the employer. Please report all no-shows to a staff member before you depart.
LunChWe can assist in making lunch arrangements with faculty members if advance notice is provided. The first floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union contains our Food Court and J.W.’s Grille. The second floor houses The Runt (which features Papa John’s pizza, Freshens Brand frozen treats, candy and convenience items), a coffee shop, bookstore and lounge area. The third floor contains a lounge area, meeting rooms, and conference rooms that may be reserved, but require at least 48-hours notice and are subject to availability.
evaLuationAn evaluation will be included in your recruiting folder. Please take a few minutes prior to departure to provide us with feedback on your recruiting experience. Your comments help us to assess our strengths and develop areas that may need improvement.
It is never too early to schedule campus recruiting dates for the upcoming trimesters. Please share your plans with our Career Development Coordinator – Employer Relations to make future arrangements.

on-CamPus interviewsRecruiters may choose to have an open, pre-select or fill at Career Day interview schedule. An open schedule allows students who meet the predetermined criteria (major, GPA, graduation date) to sign up for an interview. A pre-select schedule allows the recruiter to review the resumes submitted and then invite candidates of interest to select a time on the interview schedule. This schedule requires five weeks notice prior to interview date. Employers may choose to fill their schedule at Career Day if prior arrangements are made with Career Services.
To reserve interviewing dates and select scheduling arrangements, complete the On-Campus Recruiting form found at www.nwmissouri.edu/careerserv under On-Campus Interviewing. Please provide a complete job description, including the requirement of a bachelor’s degree. Requests are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
inFormation sessionsInformation Sessions are usually held the night before On-Campus Interviews and provide a setting to promote awareness and excitement about the organization. Typically the session begins with an overview of the company, job expectations and industry trends, followed by a question/answer session. Highlights of the organization can be shared through videos, slides, web pages or a question/answer session to increase student interest. Students and faculty will be notified of all information sessions. Recruiters can choose to add candidates from the Information Session to their interview schedule.
Career Services makes many of the necessary arrangements for On-Campus Recruiting. We will reserve the rooms and order necessary equipment upon request. Please contact Campus Dining at 660.562.1275 if you would like to make arrangements for food or refreshments.
“moCK” interview Day“Mock” Interview Day is held each fall and spring. The day is composed of eight mock interviews for each selected employer and is designed to provide students with feedback on how to improve their resume and interviewing skills to better prepare them for real interviews. Each interview session will be approximately 40 minutes, which allows 20 minutes to conduct the student’s interview and 10-15 minutes to evaluate the resume and provide them with feedback. This is an all-day event, the first interview begins at 8:30 a.m. and the last interview concludes by 4:30 p.m. If you are interested in participating please contact our office.
emPLoyer PaneLsCareer Services offers a variety of programs for students throughout the year. These programs are led by employers willing to share their point of view and experience within the industry. Panels typically conclude with a question/answer session. If you are interested in participating please contact our office.
Career DayOffered each fall and spring, this event provides employers the opportunity to connect with potential hires for full-time or internship positions. We believe you will find our event to be both affordable and professional. Graduate schools and other post-professional schools are also encouraged to participate. This event is open to all students, alumni and community members.

next-Day interviewsNext-Day Interviews are hosted the day following Career Day; employers must pre-register to reserve space to interview candidates of interest. Space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
eDuCation exPoThis job fair is exclusively for school districts and private schools seeking potential teaching candidates. Soon-to-graduate teacher candidates, alumni and other guests can present their resumes to school districts and learn about the district’s immediate openings.
resume reFerraLsCareer Services can match employers with candidates that meet their hiring criteria through resume referrals. We provide this service to employers seeking to fill full-time or internship positions which require a bachelor’s degree or a degree in progress. Contact Career Services with the job description, including major, GPA and graduation date. Our staff will mail or e-mail the resumes of qualified registered candidates to the employer.

Some students may wish to gain academic credit for their internship. If so, the student initiates this paperwork procedure to establish this three-way agreement between the student, the University and you, the employer. A Northwest Academic Internship is a guided work experience in a professional field with an approved employer or organization for which a student earns academic credit. Each academic department establishes their own internship criteria and requirements.
