From Web of Entrance Exams to a Single Exam A step forward by HRD Ministry to reduce the burden on Indian students due to multiple entrance examinations conducted across India each year
What is ISEET (Proposed) ? Indian Science-Engineering Eligibility Test
Proposed by Ministry of Human Resource Development,
Government of India
The Single National Level Entrance Exam to replace IIT-JEE, AIEEE, RPET,
MHCET, WBJEE, etc
It will do away with multiple entrance exams & reduce the stress levels of students
performance in the Class 12 Board exam will be mandatorily considered for admissions, with a weightage not less than 40 % of the total score
ISEET will be conducted by CBSE. Further modalities will be worked
out by an academic group headed by the director of IIT,
Kanpur
ISEET will have two parts, ISEET Main and ISEET
Advance, each of three hours duration and both tests will be given on the
same day
Each state government or institute will be able to decide the specific
weight it gives to Board, Main and Advance exam
scores
ISEET is proposed to be conducted twice in the year 2013 for the first
time in Apr or May and later in Nov or Dec. The frequency is
proposed to be increased to 3 or 4 times a year later on from 2014

From Web of Entrance Exams to a Single Exam A step forward by HRD Ministry to reduce the burden on Indian students due to multiple entrance examinations conducted across India each year
In the present system the burden on students and parents is tremendous in terms of:
Key features & benefits of the new pattern for students and parents:
ISEET
How will ISEET benefit Students & Parents
Time & Money (examination fee & travel expenses)
1
stress caused in scheduling and preparing for each examination
syllabus
2
anxiety and trauma that they face as they have to restrict their choice of
institutions for which they can apply due to time, resource and physical
limitations
3
Students have to focus only on one exam to take admissions into all colleges
across India
1
As ISEET will be conducted twice or more in a year and scores will be valid
for two years, students will get multiple chances to improve their scores
2
Students should give equal importance to school boards performance as it is a
mandatory part of the selection process
3
ISEET - Indian Science-Engineering Eligibility Test Present System Vs ISEET(Proposed) A comparative analysis
IIT-JEE AIEEE State PETs
15 IITs IT-BHU ISM, Dhanbad 6 IISERs Institute of
Marine Studies IIEST (Shibpur)
NERIST (Itanagar)
• Also, entrance exams of many other Technical & Deemed Universities and various Private Institutions
• In total there are around 150 entrance exams which are conducted each year across India
RPET WBJEE MHCET EAMCET KCET Odisha JEE MPPET Other PETs

Present System of Entrance Exams Proposed ISEET System
ISEET – two or three times a year
ISEET introduced to systematically replace all pre-engineering entrance exams by ISEET Single Common Exam and will be used to fill: • More that 13,000 IIT-JEE seats • More than 25000 AIEEE seats • Lacs of seats from various State Level
Exams, Technical, Deemed and Private Universities & Institutions
School Board performance made a mandatory part of selection process To be conducted twice or more in a
year so students will get chances to improve scores
ISEET
Other National exams for IISc, ISI,IIST, etc.
ISEET will be a single day exam in two sessions of 3 hours each
ISEET – New Pattern Simplified Student Score = Board’s Performance + MAIN Score + Advance Score (Optional) Evaluation in Basic Sciences, General Aptitude & Subject Knowledge (PCM)
Morning Session 09:00AM to 12:00PM
Afternoon Session 02:00PM to 05:00PM
ISEET MAIN ISEET ADVANCE
ISEET MAIN is an Objective Aptitude Test like CAT for IIMs, SAT in the USA, partly BITSAT
ISEET MAIN will test students for English Comprehension, Critical Thinking & Logical Reasoning i.e. general aptitude
Will test the inherent intelligence of the student
Objective type exam to test the problem solving abilities of a student in basic science subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics
Current AIEEE/IIT-JEE pattern subject test
Is expected to be Advance to School Board curriculum & closer to AIEEE level of difficulty
ISEET – New Pattern Simplified Student Score = Boards Performance + MAIN Score + Advance Score (Optional) Evaluation in Basic Sciences, General Aptitude & Subject Knowledge (PCM)
Minimum 40% weightage will be mandatorily given to Calss XII Board performance in the admission process across India. This can go upto 100% as in case of Tamil Nadu
• ISEET MAIN made a mandatory part of admission process with a minimum of 30% weightage and can go up to 60%
• ISEET ADVANCE with a maximum of 30% weightage in admission process made a mandatory part of for taking admissions into IITs and NITs
• It is optional for other central and state level institutions

• Different State Boards and Central Board results will be normalized on the basis of percentile formula
• ISEET MAIN and ADVANCE will be compulsory
• The actual weightage of MAIN & ADVANCE will be decided by the board of directors if IITs

ISEET – Areas of concern for Students and Parents Students need to take a completely new approach for ISEET preparation Parents need to understand that level of competition will increase tremendously
For Students
For Parents
More practice will be required as the level of difficulty of ISEET ADVANCE exam will be lower than IIT JEE and Speed will be critical
Coaching for Class XII will board a must as it will carry minimum 40% weightage
Overall course curriculum will increase due to inclusion of MAIN exam
It is essential to take professional guidance for Boards preparation as Class XII performance will be an integral part of the overall admission process
Coaching is a must, as to take admission in any college ISEET will be compulsory even for local colleges and adequate preparation will be critical
The level of competition will increase as there will only be one exam to compete across India for all students to take admissions in colleges
Level of competition will increase as there will be only one exam to compete
The level of competition will also increase as all students will get multiple chances for improvement & ISEET scores will be valid for two years
Inputs for reforms in Engineering Programmes admission system in the Report of Committee presented to the Council of IITs
ISEET – Relevant News sightings & Govt. Reports HRD Ministry has proposed to reduce burden on aspirants by lowering the difficulty level of IITJEE exam and bring it closer to AIEEE i.e. ISEET Advance – advance to Boards syllabus
“The director of a new IIT said "With the new proposals, there would be multiple coachings, to be started much early, for class 10, 12, an advance test, and an aptitude test." He also feared that the ultimate scenario would be cut-throat competition in class 10 and 12. "Even with 100%, a student will not able to get an IIT seat of his choice," he said.
• Reduction in the number of examinations to one • Testing knowledge intensity • alignment to the 12th class syllabus • Reduction of pressure on students • Emphasis on aptitude • Removal of negative marking • Online processes

“If Class 12 becomes important, some students will, no doubt, drop out of coaching, but more of them will take even more coaching – for both IIT-JEE and Class 12. Their future now depends on maxing both exams. Who will take chances?”

“A IIT Delhi note categorically points out that “such important decisions are being taken without proper discussions” with IITs, “The immaculate reputation of the JEE is due to the commitment and involvement of the IIT faculty at all stages. So, if there is a problem with the JEE, the solution too should come from IITs,” said a senior faculty member of a leading IIT.
