Fertilizer Deep Placement (FDP)
WHAT IS FERTILIZER DEEP PLACEMENT?
Fertilizer Deep Placement (UDP) is the practice of placing briquetted fertilizer 5-7cm deep in soil, at spacing of 40 cms.

CONCLUSIONS OF A RECENT STUDY
• Deep placement of urea briquette and NPK briquette resulted in higher vegetable yields and in general higher uptake of nutrients compared with broadcast application of NPK.
• Greater benefits were accrued with the integrated use of manures and deep placement of briquettes.

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF FDP TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION IN GHANA?
• Limited Supply and Demand of fertilizer briquettes
• FDP Best Practices for vegetables are not harmonized for vegetable farmers
• Briquette application is not mechanized and is thus labor-intensive
A few challenges include
BRIQUETTED FERTILIZER SUPPLIERS IN GHANA
• Upper East Region, Bolgatanga:
–Simple Prince
• Northern Region, Tamale:
–Ganorma
• Volta Region, Ho hoe:
–Greenshield
