Pastors and ChurchesSESSION THREE: DREAMS, SCHEMES, THEMES, CULTURE
DEFINITIONS
DREAMSCHEMETHEMECULTURE
DEFINITIONS
Dream: this is the goal. This is the intentional place that we are moving towards. Our end vision – where we want to be standing. It answers “what” and “why”
Scheme: this is the plan. This is the blueprint for what we are building, the road map for our destination. It answers “how”
Theme: this is the next step. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and the theme is what lets us know what the next step is. The dream and scheme should largely be constants, but the theme will change as we walk down the road. This answers “what next”
Culture: there is no point in having a dream come true if we lose our identity. Our culture is who we are while dreaming the dreaming, working to the scheme and working out the current theme. This answers “who”
Motto: This is a handy way of helping people remember the dream, scheme, theme and culture of a church. It sums up what the church is about in a pithy and punchy manner

OUTREACH
If you are not impacting the community, you are not a church – you are a social club.
Two sides of outreach: OVERFLOW and PLANNED
OVERFLOW:
People asking people to come – when they are excited to come, they will
Also, create a culture of celebrating the win of inviting someone!
PLANNED OUTREACH
ACTS OF KINDNESS
HEALING WITHOUT WALLS
MARKETING (Leafleting, Banners, Newspapers, UCB, Premier, Noticeboards)
CHURCH CALENDAR
You need to maximise Easter, Hallowe’en, Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
You cannot just preach extemporaneously week after week
Strategy that lines up with your theme, and therefore fits into the dream and the scheme.
