Organization for an Orderly 2019
I made a concerted effort this week, the day after Christmas, to organize my office. Put things in order, removing
the clutter and otherwise, having a place for everything and having everything in its place. Okay. In reality, I am not done.
Nor do I think I will ever be done.
Organizing is one of those tasks that continues. We have things where we want them only to decide that we can see
there is another way to organize something or another better. But, no matter what, I like and strive toward order.
Consider the definitions of orderly:
1. having a systematic arrangement; neat
2. marked by or adhering to a system or method
3. Devoid of violence or disruption; peaceful
Synonyms for Orderly: ar ranged, methodic, neat, precise, systematic
Antonyms for Orderly: complicated, disorder ly, disorganized, untidy, chaotic
The Bible speaks about Order:
1 Corinthians 14:40 - Let all things be done decently and in order.
Proverbs 24:27 Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your
house.
Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your hear t and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways
acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
I believe that where there is an organized plan, schematic, or paradigm , there is an orderly life. You hear people
refer to “organized chaos” or say “clutter is the sign of a genius.” However, actually, there is intelligence in orderliness and
organization.
Take for example the creation. It is an orderly, unfolding universe that testifies to the truth of the most majestic
statement ever uttered – ‘In the beginning, God.’ In Genesis 1 and 2, God began, then the writer describes the order and
detail God put into the Creation of heaven and Earth. It wasn’t just thrown out there. God created each piece of the earth to
be of service and support to the next piece. It was an organizational schematic. It is fascinating to see the handiwork of God
in creation: the intricate designs and patterns, vibrant color combinations, and the precise detailed systems that work inde-
pendently and with interdependency to sustain life.
Unfortunately, this world is a fallen world of chaos and decay…but God did not originally design it to be so. He is
a God of order and purpose who designed this Earth in perfect harmony and balance. There are so many amazing patterns,
and parallels in God’s Word as well. Knowing that God is a God of order and purpose, and yet full of mystery and surprise
is quite exciting! As Christians, we can search and study God’s Word and have God reveal such mysteries and order to
us…It’s such an amazing moment when something in scripture just leaps off the pages because you realize a connection
spiritually and/or an application to your own life.
As Christians, we can also strive to put order into our surroundings and routines that help us be more efficient and
purposeful. The more efficient and purposeful we are, usually the less stress we have as well, and our families benefit. The
Bible I read does not reflect reward for the lazy and slovenly person who does not apply him or herself. God has work for
us to do, a purpose for us to fulfill…and He also has the resources and tools we need to accomplish it.
Worship is another place to help us become organized and orderly. We practice the liturgy [that is, the work of the
people] in order to practice it [Confession & Forgiveness, praise, Scripture, prayer and being sent into the world] in our
everyday lives. It is in here we see and hear how God has recreated our lives through and in Christ. Through Jesus’ birth,
God offers us peace. Through his life, we hear stories of how God ordered events to bring about God’s will and purpose for
us. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God has organized a plan wherein we live a new life each day. It is here that
prayer allows us to lay out the chaos that disrupts our personal lives and listen for God to instruct those lives in an orga-
nized and productive manner.
So roll up your sleeves and apply yourself…at work, at home, in school, at worship and prayer, in your study of
the Scriptures, in your relationships, etc. Allow God to help you put life in order according to His Will.
Have a Happy New Year, and may God work in you to will and to act in order to fulfill God’s good purpose.

Monday Morning Bible Study
Mondays @ the Parsonage,
beginning January 7th, 2019, 9 – 11 AM
– Come when you can, leave when you need. –
Join us for coffee, tea and fellowship as we begin a
study based on Lindsay Hardin Freeman’s book:
Bible Women: Their Words and Why They Matter
Coming Out of 2018
On December 30th
, 2018, we had a Service of Wholeness & Healing at both congregations. As part of the service, each person had the opportunity to write down, on recipe cards, something, from the past year or the past in general, that they wished to let go of and turn over to God, or something they gave thanks to God for in the way of blessings. They deposited these cards of “release” or “thanksgiving” into a bin and receive prayer and anointing.
The following are some of the blessings many of us say in the past year:
Thankful for the blessing of engagement for marriage with a wonderful man and the love of my life. I am glad to have a family. I am glad my sister is healing after breaking her hip and shoulder. The many blessings we have all year. I am blessed. My great family. Good things. 150 years of worship. Good health. Good friends. What are your blessings?
What many are seeking this coming year:
Strength Leaving behind anger and sadness for the past year. Alleviation of health issues, physical and psychological. Putting others first. Forgiving broken relationships and moving forward. Healing relationships.
The Serenity Prayer Reinhold Niebuhr O God and Heavenly Father, Grant to us the serenity of mind to accept that which can-not be changed; courage to change that which can be changed, and wisdom to know the one from the other, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
Let us all live this prayer in 2019.
