What is 3D Load Configurator?
3D Load Configurator placement was designed to pack three dimensional rectangular objects into a rectangular container, considering constraints including: Orientation preferences (i.e. Upright, Prone,
Lengthwise, Widthwise) Stacking compatibilities (i.e. bottom only, max
stacking layer = 2, floor compatibility, max top weight, and max height overhang constraints such as maximum of 20% unsupported)
Myth: 3D Load Configurator configuration is complex!!!

Ship Unit Specification - Header Values
A Ship Unit Spec (or often referred to as the Transport Handling Unit/THU) does not need Length, Width, and Height populated if these values are sent into OTM. These values could also get copied from the Packaged Item to the Ship Unit.

Note: This will help determine your Stack Below Orientation Profile

Stack Below Orientation Profile
Example: Must model the fact that Ranges cannot be stacked under Refrigerators, regardless of the orientation. You would need to create a profile so Refrigerators and all its orientations are not compatible. Then attach this profile to Ranges and all their possible orientations.

Planning Parameters
A new CONTAINER OPT CONFIG ID for the new Conopt functionality must be configured in the Planning Parameter set. The old version of Load Config must be turned off when using the new version. This is done by specifying NO LOAD CONFIG as the parameter for LOAD CONFIG ENGINE TYPE.
0: NO MIXING ALLOWED 1: WIDTHWISE MIXING ALLOWED 2: WIDTHWISE AND STACKING MIXING ALLOWED Note: By setting this to 2, you will maximize the space in the equipment.

Planning Parameters – Logic Config
This MUST be enabled for 3D Load Config
If the default of 50 is not changed, the truck volume must exceed 50% before 3D Load Config will be enabled

Planning Parameters – Logic Config EMPTY SPACE SORT CRITERIA: Controls the way in which the truck is loaded. The Default = 3, which means that we try to load the width of the trailer first, height next and the length of the trailer at the end.

Pros
Optimize Trailer or Container Volumetric Utilization By placing disparate items in a container as efficiently as possible given a set of constraints, an overall lower number of containers will be required.
Provide an interactive graphical image of the solve This will provide planners and warehouse personnel with indications as to how a particular solve built the shipment in question. Tool also aids in configuration testing. OTM 3D can be used along with the rainbow pallet functionality which allows OTM to construct the pallets and then optimize into the equipment using 3D Load Config.
36 OTM 3D Load Cponfigurator © Copyright Capgemini 2012 All Rights Reserved
Cons
3-D Load Configuration must be used with items meant to be 3-D configured.
Attempting to plan non 3-D load configuration items (those without appropriate ship unit specification constraints set) in the same bulk plan with 3-D load configuration items will result in an exception.

Lessons Learned When setting the Domain Default Planning Parameter set, keep in mind that “some” actions may
revert to the Domain Default Planning Parameter set. If this is not 3D enabled, the shipment will change from “3D PLACEMENT” to “NO LOAD CONFIG” and an error will be displayed when attempting to view the shipment in 3D.

Lessons Learned (Continued)
Planning Parameter for 3D is all or nothing – if you need to separate Order Releases for 3D and non 3D, must have separate Planning Parameter sets
Ensure that each ship unit has a Transport Handling Unit Take advantage of ADA rules for auto-assignment of THU’s Set LOAD CONFIG VOLUME THRESHOLD Planning
Parameter to 0 Equipment group must have dimensions set (Height, Width
and Length) Itinerary should NOT have Equipment Assignment Type as
“NO Equipment“
