IntroductionOprah was the first black female to host her own show. She was known as “The Little Speaker” in her church and she was paid $ 500 to make a speech. When she was 16, she received a full scholarship from Tennessee State University. From 1984, she started hosting shows which was later renamed as “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. She acted in a movie called “The Color Purple” and received an Academy Award which added a feather to her crown.

Oprah’s ChildhoodOprah lived with her grandmother, Hattie Mae Lee from age 3. Since then she was fond of books and started reading and writing before Kindergarten. She began reading the Bible and eventually began to give speeches at the church.

Real Name

Oprah Winfrey’s real name was supposed to be Ruth Gail Winfrey, but her name was written wrong on her Birth Certificate. So, everyone called her “Oprah Gail Winfrey”.
