The "Pipe Fittings" catalogue is part of a comprehensive series of catalogues, brochures and data
sheets which are provided to our customers and associated industry groups. This catalogue
describes our range of pipe fittings which are principally manufactured in carbon steel, cast ductile
iron and malleable iron. A separate catalogue describes our range of stainless steel pipes and fittings.
In Australia we have two broad groups of standards which govern the design and manufacture of our
products, viz:
British / Australian Standards Generally covering cast iron and mild steel fittings for
low-to-moderate pressures, for commercial and light industrial
applications. In this group we also offer selected products to DIN
standards.
American Standards Generally covering carbon steel and alloy steel fittings for higher
pressures and temperatures and typically used in the oil, gas,
chemical and heavy processing industries.
Our customers tend to work predominantly with one standard or the other. For your convenience we
have grouped most of the products accordingly. The detailed contents are shown on the opposite page.

DIMENSIONS generally to ASME B16.3 or JISB2301, depending on manufacturing source. JIS B2301dimensions are generally considered to becorresponding values to BS143 and BS1256, althoughsome sizes are not exact equivalents.
THREADING is BSP pipe thread, to BS.21(AS 1722, Part 1).
The specification for BS 143 fittings is:Taper External (Series R) Taper Internal (Series RC)
The specification for BS 1256 fittings is —Taper External (Series R) Parallel Internal (Series RP)
Our stock fittings are usually BS 143 taper/taper, asthis is believed to offer superior sealing characteristicsdue to greater thread contact (refer illustration below).Taper/taper threads are also being specified byincreasing numbers of Gas Authorities, for the samereason.
Parallel Threaded Fitting: Taper Threaded Fitting:Taper Threaded Pipe Taper Threaded Pipe
ALTERNATIVE THREADING to special order.
NPT (API linepipe threads) Taper Internal/TaperExternal can be supplied for fittings to AmericanspecificationANSI B16.3.
NOTE: Locknuts and Plain Sockets without ribs, aresupplied with parallel threads.
FINISHHot Dip Galvanised is the standard finish for stock.
TESTINGFittings shall be subject to an internal hydraulicpressure of 2068 kPa without showing any sign ofleakage or abnormality.
WORKING PRESSURES (except flanges)
Recommended maximum working pressures are 1379kPa for water and 1034 kPa for steam, air, gas and oil.

I.S.O. METRIC HEXAGON STEEL BOLTS FOR USE WITH AS. 2129 FLANGESSteel Hexagon Bolts and Nuts (XOX) are recommended for use within a temperature range of -50°C to +300°C.Outside of this temperature range, Stud Bolts should be used as recommended in AS. 2528.
A quick reference chart for sizing bolts and nuts for a range of regularly used standard flanges is given below.
APPLICABLE TO PLATE AND FORGED STEEL LOOSE FLANGES ONLY
NOTE: Integral valve flanges quite often differ in thickness to equivalent loose flanges. When integral flanges are involved due allowance should be made to bolt lengths.
Bolt lengths listed apply to flat-faced or 1.6 mm raisedface flanges with allowance for 1.6 mm gasketthickness.
* For approximate Stud Bolt Lengths take the XOX BoltLength and add the metric diameter in mm rounded tothe nearest 5 mm increment up.
NOTE: This does not include length of point.
Inch series bolts interchangeable as follows:
BOLT HOLE DIAMETERSFor bolts to M24, clearance hole 2 mm larger.Above M24, clearance hole 3 mm larger.

MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS
SEAMLESS CARBON STEEL: Buttweld fittings are made to the material specifications of ASTM A234, grades WPA,
WPB or WPC; which correspond exactly to the material specifications of seamless carbon steel pipes to ASTM A106
grades A, B, or C.
LOW TEMPERATURE FITTINGS: For low temperature applications, a wide range of fittings in materials to ASTM
A420 can be offered.
HIGH YIELD FITTINGS: On an indent basis, we offer a range of fittings having a high yield strength suitable for use
with the various grades of API 5LX linepipe.
FERRITIC ALLOY STEEL FITTINGS: For high temperatures, OneSteel offers a range of alloy fittings to
ASTM specification A335, in the following grades:
P1 - 1/2%Mo P11 - 11/4%Cr1/2%Mo
P5 - 5%CR1/2%Mo P12 - 1%Cr1/2%Mo
P7 - 7%Cr1/2%Mo P22 - 21/4%Cr1%Mo
P9 - 9%Cr1%Mo
AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STEEL FITTINGS: OneSteel stocks stainless steel fittings in ASTM grades 304L
and 316L. Other grades available to order.
WORKING PRESSURESButtweld fittings are designed and manufactured to standards which demand a bursting strength equal to or greater than
that of Seamless Pipe of the same material specification, nominal diameter and wall thickness, and their allowable
working pressures are equal to those shown for pipe in the OneSteel pipe catalogue. Maximum allowable working
pressures for:
CARBON STEEL FITTINGS: Equal to seamless pipes to ASTM A106, (Grade B unless otherwise specified).
HIGH TEMPERATURE (Ferritic Alloy): Fittings (Grades WP5, WP11 etc), are equal to seamless pipes to ASTM A335
of similar grade (P5, P11, etc).
LOW TEMPERATURE: Fittings (Grade WPL6-ASTM A420) are equal to seamless pipes to Grade 6 - ASTM A333.
STAINLESS STEEL: Fittings (Grades 304 and 316, also 304L and 316L) are equal to stainless steel pipes to
ASTM A312 of equal grade and schedule.
NB: Stainless Steel Fittings in Schedule 10S and 5S are not designed for applications where pressure is a prime
consideration, and the relevant standard, MSS SP43 establishes the working pressures substantially lower than those
yielded by the application of the basic formula.
QUALITY CONTROLButtweld fittings from OneSteel are subject to strict quality control. Manufacturers’ plants are visited regularly, and the
source of mother tube is verified. Test certificates are available as required. OneSteel liaises with major customers to
ensure that all fittings are obtained from sources approved by the customer or by specific industry groups.

Sockolet
WELDOLETSUsed to make full size and reducing branch connections from 6 to 750mmfrom run pipes 10 to 900mm in order to:
• Facilitate header construction.
• Construct the joint to full pipe strength.
• Meet code design requirements for reinforced branch joints.
• Improve flow.
• Assure economical, clean and strong connections.
THREDOLETS AND SOCKOLETSUsed for making relatively small branch outlet connections.Threadolets and Sockolets are “half couplings” that are bevelled for convenience, tapered for strength, flared for fluid flow and drop forged for theultimate in strength and ruggedness.
ELBOLETS AND LATROLETSUsed for making threaded, socket-weld or buttweld outlets tangentially to elbows oras 45° branch connections on straight pipe. The design provides for a full penetrationweld. These fittings provide greatly improved flow conditions compared with 90°connections and are advantageous for many instrument connection applications.
INSTALLATION GUIDELess fit up time is required for Olets than formost other fittings or fabricated connections. When properwelding procedure is followed, the resultant cost is moreeconomical than constructing branch connections by anyother method.

HOW IT WORKSEach outlet size indicated on chart is designed to fit a number of run pipe sizes, E.G. The 15mm fitting marked900-100x15 will fit all run pipe sizes from 100mm to 900mm. When placed on a 900mm run pipe, there will be amaximum gap of 1.6mm between the top of the run pipe and the base of the fitting at the crotch as shown on sketch. This gap is negligible when welding.
RANGE OF OLETSThe following range of Olets are available:
• Weldolets • Thredolets • Sockolets • Elbolets • Latrolets • Nipolets • Sweepolets

SCREWED & SOCKET-WELD 2000, 3000 & 6000 lb
Screwed Fittings are taper-threaded in accordance with ASME B1.20.1, having thread lengths in accordance withapplicable tables.
The actual and theoretical axes of the threads may diverge by not more than 1.6 mm in 300 mm.
Fittings can be threaded to British Standard Taper (BS 21) if required. ASME B 1.20.1, the American Standard forpipe threads, determines length of thread engagement as shown below.
Socket-Weld Fittings are designed for welding to American standard pipes (3000 lb. fittings to Sch. 80 pipeand 6000 lb. fittings to Sch. 160 pipe). The standard does not give dimensions for socket-welding 2000 lb. fittings.

The purpose of socket-weld reducer inserts is to avoid thedelays and extra costs that naturally occur in producing regularsocket-weld fittings with reduced outlets. Designed for use withstraight size fittings, reducer inserts serve the same purposeas threaded bushings used with screwed fittings. The drawingat right illustrates the simplicity of their application.

SPECIFICATIONS
Forged Carbon, Alloy and Stainless Steel Flanges to American Standards aredesigned for use with pipes and fittings to American Standards, but can also beattached, in certain sizes to pipes made to British and Australian Standards.
SIZES 15 - 600mmCLASS 150, 300, 400, 600, 900, 1500 & 2500Dimensions shown are for Flanges made to the dimensional requirements ofASME B16.5 which is the accepted American Standard for all Flanges in sizes to600mm bore.
SIZES ABOVE 600mmSteel Flanges above 600mm bore are made to various standards, as follows:
CLASS 150, 300, 400, 600, 900Dimensions to *MSS-SP44 or BS 2393. OneSteel stocks slip-on andweld-neck flanges to BS 3293 and blinds to MSS SP44.
*MSS-SP44A Standard developed by the Manufacturers Standardisation Society (of the Valvesand Fittings Industry) to provide uniform dimensions of flanges for use withhigh pressure pipelines larger than 600mm diameter. These designs were predicatedon flanges being used with API 5LX line-pipe of 52,000 lbs. minimum yield strength, and were proportioned accordingly.
This Standard can be taken as being the extension of ASME B16.5 in sizes above600mm bore.
API 605 gives dimensions for flanges above 600mm, which are different toMSS, BS and ASME.

LARGE DIAMETER FLANGE STANDARDS
ASME B16.1bThis Standard establishes dimensions for Class 250 Cast Iron Flanges above 600mm,(as ASME B16.1 gives dimensions for large diameter Class 125 Cast Iron Flanges).
API 605American Petroleum Institute Standard intended primarily for use in Oil and Gasproduction. API 605 dimensions DO NOT match ASME, MSS or BS dimensions ofsimilar pressure class.
AWWA C207-54TThis is a Standard published by the American Waterworks Association for steelFlanges to be used on waterworks and sewerage pipes. These flanges matchClass 125 Cast Iron Flanges (ASME B16.1) in most dimensions.
CLASSES 125LW, 175 & 350These are Standards developed over the years by a number of manufacturers, not allusing exactly the same dimensions.
TEMA FLANGESThe Tubular Exchangers Manufacturers Association (TEMA) lays down standards fordimensions and material specifications for Shell Flanges, Cover Flanges, Long WeldingNecks for Nozzles and other heat exchanger components.
BS.3293This British Standard established dimensions for flanges for petroleum industry use,in Class 150, 300, 400 and 600, in sizes above 600mm, which correspond exactly to thoseof MSS SP-44 in Class 300, 400 and 600.
Class 900 is not included in the British Standard, but dimensions are given for Class 150,600-700mm which are similar to those of ASME B16.1, Class 125.
BS.1560This British Standard is based on ASME B16.5, and lists Steel Pipe Flanges to thesame dimensions, pressure classes and in the same sizes as the American Standard upto 600mm.
ANSI FLANGESMATERIAL SPECIFICATIONSAmerican Standard Pipe Flanges are manufactured in avariety of Carbon, Alloy and Stainless Steels and selection ofa particular grade is determined by the usual criteria ofpressure/temperature requirements and corrosion resistance.
Since these factors determine pipe and fittings to be used in apiping system, it is then necessary only to select flanges of asimilar material.
The classifications are used to group materials for Flanges Class 150through Class 2500.
* 150 lb and 300 lb classes only.
† ASTM Specifications directly covering forged flanges for thesegeneral materials specifications do not presently exist. Flanges ofthese materials shall be specified to conform to the nearest grade inA182, except chemistry to conform to the ASTM specification listed.
† Intended primarily for use for subzero service. The ratings at-29° to 38°C given for the materials on page 28 shall also apply atlower temperatures.

FLANGES TO AMERICAN STANDARDSFLANGES TO AMERICAN STANDARDS
WELDING NECK FLANGESThis type of flange is attached by buttwelding to theadjoining pipe or shell. The weld may be made eithermanually or automatically with or without a backing strip.
Sound welds are readily obtained with any recognisedwelding procedure.
THREADED FLANGESThreaded flanges are, of course, attached by screwing tothreaded pipe ends.
SOCKET-WELD FLANGESIn attaching socket-weld flanges, the pipe end isinserted into the socket and then welded at the flangehub. An inside weld at the pipe end is frequently madefor greater strength or, with grinding, to provide asmooth bore without pockets or recesses.
METHODS OF ATTACHMENT
SLIP- ON FLANGESAlthough recommended practice in attaching Slip-Ontype flanges is to weld both at the flange hub and thepipe end, for mild service conditions only one issometimes employed. In this case the weld is normallymade at the pipe end.
LAP JOINT FLANGESLap joint flanges are most frequently used with lap jointstub ends, (Type A), although in some cases the lap isformed on the pipe end. Since they are free to rotate orswivel, there is no problem of bolt hole alignment. Suchjoints may be readily broken for inspection, cleaning, etc. The radius at the ID of the flange faceaccommodates that at the back of the lap, thuspermitting more uniform application of loading.
Lap Joint flanges find their most common applicationwhen used with stainless steel stub ends.
OneSteel stocks Type B stub endswhich are used with normal slip-on weld flanges -
ie Lap joint backing flangesare not required.

IN THESE SIZES
GASKET SURFACEFlanges, and other products designed for bolted connection, when furnished with raised face (or flat face) may have anytype of gasket surface finish that is required. The more common finishes are described in the following paragraphs.
1 STOCK FINISH:
This is a continuous spiral groove. Fornominal sizes 300mm and smaller it isgenerated by a 1.58mm radius round-nosed tool at a feed of 0.79mm perrevolution. For sizes above 300mm thetool nose is radiused to 3.17mm and thefeed is 1.19mm per revolution.
NB OneSteel stocks flanges withsurface finish in the range3.2-6.3 microns, ideal for usewith both spiral-wound andring gaskets.
4 SMOOTH FINISH:
This finish, which can be produced byseveral shapes of tools, shows nodefinite tool markings apparent to thenaked eye. In the past this finish wassometimes known as “Smooth Plane”.This term however, should be avoidedbecause of a tendency to confuse it with“flat faced” which, of course, applies tothe flange facing and not to the gasketsurface finish.
2 SPIRAL SERRATED:
This too, is a continuous spiral groove, but it differs from the stock finish in thatthe groove is generated with a 90°included angle “V” tool. The groove is.39mm deep and the feed is .79mm forall sizes.
5 COLD WATER FINISH:
Produced by using a wide tool at highspeeds, this finish is equivalent to that ofa ground surface. It is mirror-like inappearance and surfaces finished in thismanner are usually expected to be usedwithout gaskets.
3 CONCENTRIC SERRATED: (Not illustrated)
As the name suggests this surfacefinish is made up of concentric grooves.A 90° included angle “V” tool is usedand the grooves are .39mm deep and.79mm apart.
AMERICAN STANDARD FACINGS — To ASME B.16.5
*It is necessary to modify facing dimensions in order to furnish slip-on flanges 40mm and smaller and welding neckflanges with bores larger than Schedule 40, in sizes 40mm and smaller, for large tongue and groove facing.

ORIFICE FLANGESOrifice Flanges are used to locate an orifice plate in a pipeline and to provide a tapped opening upstream anddownstream of the plate.
The tapped openings are connected to pressure recording instruments and the pressure differential between theupstream and downstream readings is translated into a measurement of flow in the line.
Orifice Flanges are always supplied in pairs or sets and are available with slip-on, weldneck or threaded connections.
To facilitate the insertion and removal of orifice plates, the flanges are provided with a set of jacking screws.By backing off the flange bolts and tightening the jacking screws, the flanges are forced apart, allowing access to theorifice plate.
Orifice flanges are available from all OneSteel branches. Orifice plates can also be supplied to customer requirements.
Please contact your OneSteel Sales Office for further details.

FLANGE GASKETS
OneSteel offers an extensive range of pre-cut gaskets to suit the
flanges described in this catalogue. Our stock range mainly
comprises:
Full Face Gaskets: To suit Table D, E and H flanges to AS 2129
Ring Gaskets: To suit Class 150 and 300lb raised face flanges
to ANSI B16.5
Gasket materials include:
INSERTION RUBBER
Full face to suit AS 2129 Table D or E. Made from 3mm natural
rubber, usually fabric reinforced. Suitable for liquids and gases at
ambient temperature, within the rated pressure of the flange.
COMPRESSED NON-ASBESTOS FIBRE
Ring or full face. Usually Klingersil C4430. Suitable for most liquids
and gases including hydrocarbons and steam. AGA approved
(number 5237). Potable water approved to AS 4020.
SPIRAL WOUND GASKETS
Constructed from a spirally wound “V” section austenitic stainless
steel strip, with a non-asbestos filler between each turn. Offering
high pressure and temperature resistance and ease of replacement.
There are two popular styles in the Klinger range of spiral gaskets:
SELF CENTERING, MEDIUM PRESSURE TYPE CR
Type CR gaskets have an outer ring which facilitates accurate
centering of the gasket in the joint, provides additional radial
strength, helps prevent blow-out and serves as a reference point to
determine the amount of compression during bolt pullup.
Recommended up to Class 600 flanges or equivalent, general
service. Maximum temperature 350º with graphite filler – check
range suitability.
SELF CENTERING, HIGH PRESSURE TYPE CRIR
Type CRIR gaskets are the same construction as Type CR but have
an additional inner ring. The inner ring provides additional radial
strength, acts as a barrier to vacuum and corrosive/abrasive media.
Recommended for Class 150 to 2500 flanges or equivalent, and
any application requiring advantages of an inner ring.
Maximum temperatures 540ºC with graphite filler – check flange
suitability. Higher temperature rated materials available on request.

The only system that provides the option
of rigidity or flexibility.
The Victaulic grooved piping system is the most versatile,
economic and reliable piping system available. It is faster
to install than welding, easier and more reliable than
threading or flanging, generally resulting in lowest total
installed cost.
The system is designed for roll grooved or cut grooved
standard pipe or roll grooved light wall pipe. Pipe end
preparation is fast and easy either in the shop or on the
job site with the variety of Victaulic grooving tools available.
In addition to speed and ease of assembly, the Victaulic
system offers varied mechanical benefits to the designer,
installer and owner. With the introduction of Zero-Flex®
and FireLockTM rigid couplings, the operation of flexibility
or rigidity adds to the design versatility. Flexibility and
rigid couplings can be incorporated as needed in any
system to take full advantage of the characteristics of
each.

RIGIDITYVersatility is the key, utilisingstandard grooved pipe, fittingsand valves, rigidity can beachieved with standardcouplings. The unique patentedangle-pad design of Zero-Flexstainless steel or ductilecouplings provides positiveclamping of the pipe to resisttorsional and flexural loads.
FLEXIBILITYThe Victaulic systemaccommodatesexpansion/contraction/deflection and permitsdesigning to take advantageof these characteristics.Elimination or reduction ofspecial vibration accessories, expansion loops andsettlement allowance areamong the options.
NOISE ANDVIBRATIONATTENUATIONThe basic design ofindependent grooved pipes, sealed by a rubber gasketand unified by an externallybolted coupling housing, reduces noise/vibrationtransmission providingsuperior vibration attenuationthroughout a system.
SELF RESTRAINEDJOINThe full engagement of thehousing keys into groovesaround the full pipecircumference providessignificant pressure restraintand end load capabilities towithstand pipe movement fromvaried internal and externalsources.
EASY SYSTEM OREQUIPMENTACCESSRemoval of two couplings (justfour bolts) provides access forcleaning, maintenance, systemexpansion or changes. Victaulicbutterfly valves provide “deadend” shut-off service to isolateequipment or systems.
ALIGNMENT EASEThe grooved system allowsfor rotation of pipe, valves, fitting or couplings beforetightening for easy alignment. This compensates for somealignment errors andeliminates the “two-holing”required with flanges. Fittingin tight places is eased.

VICTAULIC SHOULDERED SYSTEMVICTAULIC SHOULDERED SYSTEM®®
42
The VICTAULIC flexible coupling and piping system issimple in design. It consists of a self-sealing rubbergasket embracing two pipe ends and a coupling whichencloses the gasket while engaging shoulders on thepipe ends.
The VICTAULIC flexible coupling is leakproof underpressure or vacuum even when the pipeline is only partlyfull or under vibration.
The small space occupied by the flexible coupling, theease with which it can be fitted into confined spaces, together with the quick and easy coupling of pipe lengthsmake the VICTAULIC flexible coupling and piping systemuniquely versatile. The system provides for limitedexpansion and contraction and accommodates somelongitudinal and angular movement.
OPERATING FEATURES
SPEED AND EFFICIENCYVICTAULIC shouldered joints have two basic parts – twoshouldered ends on pipes (or fittings) and a complete coupling.
The toggle coupling is hinged and requires no bolts. It has two components:– a rubber ring– the hinged coupling
FLEXIBILITYThe VICTAULIC system permits limited angular deflectionin any direction without leakage so that uneven groundmay be followed using straight pipes. Transmission ofvibration from machines to pipelines can be minimised byusing at least two adjacent VICTAULIC joints.
EXPANSION AND CONTRACTIONEvery VICTAULIC joint in a straight pipeline allows forsome contraction and expansion of the pipe length itconnects.
SYSTEM SIMPLICITY
Just as VICTAULIC joints are easy to connect so they are
easy to disconnect.
Dismantle two VICTAULIC joints in a VICTAULIC line and
any individual pipe length, fitting or valve requiring
maintenance, cleaning or repair can be quickly removed or
replaced. Adjoining sections are undisturbed; pipe ends
and joints are unharmed. This feature also permits easy
rotation of pipes.

LOCKED JOINT
1. VICTAULIC joints mechanically lock the shouldered pipeends together securely and safely. The joints cannot blowoff under pressure nor can they pull out under vibration orsag, because the shoulder sections of the couplingsengage the circumference of the pipe shoulders.
2. The VICTAULIC coupling, when applied, automaticallycentralises the VICTAULIC ring and seats it on the pipeends firmly.
3. Line pressure automatically strengthens the seal byacting internally on the ring lips. The higher the pressurethe tighter the seal.
4. Suction or vacuum also automatically strengthens the seal. The higher outside atmospheric pressure acts to compressthe walls of the VICTAULIC ring.

General Service RecommendationsRecommended for hot water service within the specified temperature range, sewage plusa variety of dilute acids, oil free air, many chemical services and compressed air.Not recommended for petroleum services.
Recommended for petroleum, oil or gas products, air with oil vapours, vegetable andmineral oils within the specified temperature range, except hot dry air over 60ºC andwater over 66ºC. Not recommended for hot water services.
ASSEMBLYIMPORTANT:
1. PIPE END MUST BE SMOOTH.The shoulder must be smooth andany lumps of galvanising behindthe shoulder or on the pipe endsremoved.
2. LUBRICATIONLubrication prevents the couplingnipping the ring and facilitatesassembly. Smear lubricant overback of gasket (which comes incontact with the coupling) and oninturned sealing edges (whichcome in contact with the pipeends). It is also helpful to smear theinside of the coupling. For waterquality rings use soapy water. Foroil quality rings use mineral oil ordip rings in the fluid to be conveyedbefore fitting.

VICTAULIC STEEL SHOULDER RINGS
VICTAULIC weld-on steel shoulder rings provide an
interference fit with the outside of the pipe ends and
therefore must be a neat tight fit.
Care is required when fitting shoulder rings to ensure
that ring distortion does not occur. It is equally important
that the distance between the edge of the steel shoulder
ring and the pipe end be accurately maintained. If this
“Stand Off” is exceeded, distortion will occur.
