Witness: An FUMC Sermon Series
Christianity has an exceptional quality – it includes people like you and me! When Christ ascended into heaven, he left his Church in the hands of people like us. Jesus left his Church in the hands of people who have been saved, people who have been redeemed, people who have a purpose, people who have a mission. However, a primary question for God’s people asks, “How do we fulfill that mission?” The basic answer to that primary question is, “We witness to others.” When we serve as witnesses for Christ, we share with others by word and deed about the amazing grace offered to every one of us. During the month of November, we will move through a sermon series called “Witness.” We as a church want to live out Jesus’ words from Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” This commission wasn’t only given to a group of disciples in the first century AD. We too have received this commission, and so have the opportunity to serve as Christ’s witnesses in our own “end of the earth.” John Maxwell once commented, “A leader knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” The same can be said about witnesses for Jesus Christ. So, during November 2018, let’s learn about knowing the way, going the way, and showing the way of Christ (because Jesus IS the way)! Date: Scripture: Sermon: Special Day: _________

Whatever happened to Christmas being about the birth of God’s Son? It is
true that nine in ten Americans celebrate Christmas. It’s also true that the
role of “religion” in Christmas celebrations appears to be in decline. And of
course, Christmas is the time of year when retailers make the majority of
their money (and consumerism hits an all-time high). Make no mistake
about it, Christmas is absolutely about receiving (it is NOT about getting),
and it is at Christmas that we celebrate receiving the greatest gift – the gift
of God’s Son. Christmas is about the greatest story ever told – the story of
God’s love given to humanity through Christ’s birth. Christmas also gives
us the greatest opportunity to be the very best human beings we can possibly
be – through sharing Jesus with others. Our prayer is that through reading
and studying this devotional you might learn to desire and do Christmas a
little different this year.
Copies of Nuttin’ But Bad are available in the church office for $5.00 (and
on Amazon as well at full price). This book will make a wonderful early
Christmas present for yourself or someone you love (just be sure and get
it to them before December 1st, because that’s when the devotions
begin!), or a fun stocking stuffer as well.
The United Methodist Women’s Annual Bazaar will be
held Tuesday, November 20th. We need the help of our
entire church family to make our fundraiser a success.

A recent donation was made to FUMC archives of a 1916 FUMC church directory. In the box, the donor found
some letters from WWI Navy veteran, Bryan E. Horton. The donor will send the letters to descendants of Mr.
Horton or Mrs. A. J. Horton, if they can be found. Note: The Horton Family is not listed in the directory but
believed to have moved to Corsicana; and attended our church. If you have info, please contact Jan Noblett or
Sherry in the church office.
The United Methodist Women’s Annual Bazaar will be held Tuesday, November 20th. We need the help of our
entire church family to make our fundraiser a success. Please consider baking items for us to sell in our bake

Please fill out the form below to let us know what you will be baking or making. Please bring your baked good
to the church on Monday, November 19, or early Tuesday morning. Please wrap your item in clear plastic wrap

The three and four-year-old classes had fun at the Pumpkin patch. The Pumpkin patch was set up with 4 games for them to play. The children were excited when they each received a small pumpkin to take home. They are getting excited about Halloween. The preschool will have games set up for them in the gym and they will trick or treat to the church offices.

We are about to start a new series called "Jesus and Tough Times." This study will help us teach our students that when they experience tough times, they should express their emotions to God in real, honest ways; that faith in Jesus and His ability to lead them through trials is what will get them through tough times; that Jesus stands ready to offer comfort to them in the midst of their tough times; and that when Jesus ultimately delivers them from tough times, their response should be thankfulness and praise.
