Series sponsors at An Appalachian Summer Festival, themonthlong summer arts program that features a variety ofmusic, theatre, film and dance on the campus of Ap-palachian State University in Boone. Debuting in 1984 asa chamber music festival, it has developed over the yearsto become one of the nation's largest regional multi-artsfestivals with over 26,000 people in attendance each year.Presented by the Appalachian State University Office ofArts & Cultural Programs, the annual arts celebration isheld every July on and around the university campus.

AppTV Comes to SkyBestContinuing its commitment to supporting
local programming, SkyLine/SkyBest has partnered with AppTV, Appalachian State
University’s television station. Beginning this July, SkyBestwill bring AppTV’s original and acquired programs to oursubscribers in Ashe, Alleghany, Avery, Watauga and Johnson counties.
AppTV debuted its daily programming on May 26,2015, from the George G. Beasley Media Complex inBoone. Reaching viewers on campus and beyond, thestation utilizes production skills of the Department ofCommunication’s students, as well as the talents of otherAppalachian departments and colleges. AppTV’s originalprograms offer something of interest to audiences of allages and cover topics from sports to current events andfrom religion to finance.
On July 14, 2016, the station will feature AppTVComes to SkyBest Day to celebrate the launch of AppTV’sprogramming on SkyBest’s Channels 20 and 1020. Thecelebration will culminate with a showing of “The Land

Alleghany Senior Named National Scholarship Winner
Jade Shepherd of Alleghany Countywas one of 67 students across ruralAmerica to receive a national collegescholarship through the Foundation forRural Service (FRS). The FRS announcedthat it is awarding a total of $150,000 incollege scholarships this spring to stu-dents in rural communities served by
members of NTCA-The Rural Broadband Association.Miss Shepherd is receiving a $2,500 scholarship
award, with $2,000 provided by the FRS and $500 fromSkyLine as the local sponsor. She plans to study biology/pre-physical therapy at Virginia Tech University. More than1,400 applications were received by the FRS this year.The FRS Scholarship Program began in 2005, and SkyLinebecame a local sponsor in 2006. Since that time, 13 areawinners have received these national scholarships.
In addition to providing locally-based scholarships,SkyLine is very pleased to be affiliated with this nationalscholarship program through its membership in NTCA

1 jalpeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped
1/8 teaspoon ground clovesBaked tortilla chipsInstructions:In medium bowl, stir together limejuice and peach jam until smooth. Area Students Named Winnersof Frank James-SkyLine
ScholarshipEleven area high school seniors have been
named recipients of the 2016 Frank James – Sky-Line Scholarship. The scholarships honor the mem-ory of former SkyLine Board President Frank Jamesand are awarded to children of SkyLine/SkyBest cus-tomers who reside in our five-county service area.The awards were announced at area high schools’Awards Day programs, and will be officially pre-sented to the students at SkyLine’s Annual Meetingin September.
Annually, SkyLine awards $1,000 scholarships,renewable for up to four years, to students pursuinga four-year college degree and $500 scholarships,renewable for up to two years, to students pursuinga community/technical college degree or vocationalprogram.
